She has published in History of Political Economy (HOPE), The Journal of the History of Economic Thought (JHET), and History of Economic Ideas (HEI). The European Society for the History of Economic Thought awarded her HOPE 2008 “The Adam Smith Problem in Reverse: Self-Interest in Adam Smith’s Wealth of Nations and Theory of Moral Sentiments” the prize of Best Article of the Year (2009). Maria Paganelli received her Ph.D. in Economics from George Mason University. Maria Paganelli’s presentation will be followed by a question and answer session.  THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 21 AT 7:00 P.M.  FEATURED SPEAKER: THOMAS POGGE* Jackson Auditorium  Currently serving as the Director of the Global Justice Program and the Leitner Professor of Philosophy and International Affairs at Yale University, Thomas Pogge is best known for his book, World Poverty and Human Rights and as co-author of The Health Impact Fund. He has presented and taught internationally, including a presentation at the TEDxCanberra Conference in 2011. Thomas Pogge is originally from Germany and received his PhD from Harvard University under the supervision of John Rawls. DESCRIPTION: "RESONANCES" - Prism Concert The Prism Concert is an interactive concert in which performers rotate locations and settings throughout the evening, allowing the audience to experience the music in many different ways and from many different places.  As one selection ends, the next begins, creating a sustained musical experience with varying textures and sounds that invite the audience to become immersed in the music. The nature of the Prism concert is interactive, evocative, sometimes humorous, and varying greatly in mood and style. This year’s Prism concert, titled Resonances, features the TLU Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble, Jazz Band, Women’s Choir, TLU Choir, Percussion Ensembles, and many chamber ensembles (brass quintet, bassoon quintet, tuba-euphonium quartet, trumpet trio, saxophone duet, vibraphone and flute duet, among others). Music from the Renaissance to the present will be featured, with something for everyone, including special appearances by School of Music faculty Paula Corley on clarinet, Dustin Jessop on saxophone, and our very own President Stuart Dorsey on drum set!  This event is free and open to the public.

DESCRIPTION: Seguín's own Chicano poet, Reyes Cárdenas, will read from and sign copies of his recently published "near complete works" collection of poetry and drama titled REYES CARDENAS: CHICANO POET 1970-2010 in the Dunne Conference Center on Wednesday, April 24, at 7:00 p.m. The reading is free and open to the public. Everyone is welcomed. From the Dictionary of Literary Biography says about Reyes: "The work of Reyes Cárdenas, always provocative in imagery and global in concern, seems to be moving toward even greater connectedness with others and ultimately with the poet himself. His earlier abstraction and experimentation gave way to a bareness of line in a clearer, more human voice that passes up description in favor of direct action and tangible emotion. Cárdenas's words and images are still a primary facet of his work, but now they are leaner, more nakedly human, and, perhaps most important, clearly directed at the inner soul." SUMMARY:Summer Scholars Academy

DESCRIPTION: TLU's Summer Scholars Academy is a two-week residential program that offers university-level courses for transferable college credit to academically gifted high school students. Each SSA student participates in two courses taught by select TLU faculty. Small classes, field trips, evening activities and a group service project offer high school students an opportunity to experience college life first-hand.   SSA will take place July 7-19 on the TLU campus. Course offerings include: hands-on psychology to boost brainpower, printmaking of comics to graffiti to painting, Windows Live Move Maker skills, DNA discovery, college composition writing; social effects and psychology behind mobile-based games and RPGs, American Sign Language and deaf culture, and college-level critical thinking.   The two-week academy is $1400 and includes tuition, room, board, books, and all associated activity fees and material costs. Need-based financial aid is available. Both camps will take place July 29-August 2 at Ayers Recital Hall in the Schuech Fine Arts Center on the TLU campus. Strings Camp runs from 9 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. and Vocal Arts Camp runs from 1:30 p.m. until 5 p.m. Lunch and a camp discount will be provided to students who participate in both camps. Family discounts are also available. Summer 2013 private lessons are also available in violin, viola and cello. Registration Deadline is July 25.
