The following AlumNotes were submitted between June 2012 and January 2013.

Robert Bob K. Blomstedt ’52 began his sixtieth year as a Texas educator during the fall semester of 2012. Bob spent most of his career working in Kenedy ISD, but he also taught in public schools in Refugio and Arlington, Texas. After receiving his M.Ed. and PH.D. degrees from U.T. Austin in mathematics education with support work in education administration he joined the education faculty of what is now known as Texas A&M-Kingsville.

Becky (Eilers) Heideman ’66 recently retired from the staff of King of Glory Lutheran Church of Dallas after over twenty-one years of service as office administrator and assistant to three senior pastors. She was honored at two special programs; a staff dinner and at the congregational lunch.

Christine (Hall) Zunker ’75 after having lived in the Fort Worth area with her husband Ken over twenty-five years, moved “home” to Guadalupe County-Cibolo area to be closer to their daughter and grandchildren. Christine has resumed her real estate career by joining her daughter at Keller Williams Legacy Group in San Antonio. Ken was retired after thirty-eight years with the Texas Army National Guard, but decided to accept a new position as recycle coordinator for the state of Texas.

Robert Briell ’76 and his wife Claudia established an endowment fund, at TLU, in Aviation Studies in memory of their son Andrew Ridge. They would be honored if you would consider contributing to the scholarship.
Jane (Roe) Cooper ’76 was recognized as a Fort Worth, Texas magazine Top Teachers of 2012. She was honored from a group of fifteen other teachers. Jane teaches second grade at Trinity Valley School in Fort Worth and has thirty years of experience in the classroom.

Patricia Rose Lang ’79 earned her master’s degree in foreign affairs from Webster University in Geneva, Switzerland on May 12, 2012. She is presently working as a specialized, bilingual secretary for the World Health Organization.  

Michael Winn ’81 who is the Travis County Director of Elections has been elected to serve as Secretary of the Board of Directors of IACREOT, the International Association of Clerks, Recorders, Election Officials and Treasurers. Winn assumed his duties in September of 2012.

Sandy (MacLachlan) Lapka ’84 relocated to Montana in 2011 after thirty-one years in Texas. Sandy then married Todd Lapka on August 11, 2012 who she attended high school with in Bigfork, Mont. They reconnected at their 30th high school reunion in 2010.

Katie (McClusky) Staudt ’88 was appointed as the senior warden for St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Payson, Ariz.

Richard Staudt ’89 opened an outpatient clinic, Staudt Therapy Services, LLC, focusing on rehabilitation services incorporating conventional and complementary treatment approaches in Payson, Ariz. He is also a certified practitioner in Jin Jyutsu Japanese healing arts.

Vicki (Rakowitz) Collins ’90 and her husband Dennis are proud and excited that their son Adam started TLU during the fall 2012 semester.

Eric Hander ’93 was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant for the Topeka Fire Department, where he has served as a firefighter since January 1999.

Petra (Stockman) Davidson ‘96 recently published her second scientific journal in AJET. Employed by the Mayo Clinic as a neurophysiology technologist since 2004, she earned her EEG registry in 2007. Petra is married with four children and now living in Minnesota.

Charles Crews ’97 was selected by the student body at Texas Tech with being one of the top five professors at the university. Charles is an assistant professor in the College of Education.

Sarah Beams ’98 recently earned a master’s of science in health communication from Boston University. She currently serves as the communication manager for the Air Force Deployment Health Assessments Program at the Air Force Medical Operations Agency in San Antonio.
Alexis (Carroll) Cline ’98 has joined TCEA in Austin, Texas as their publications specialist. Her new ebook The iPad in Elementary: ELA is currently available in iTunes. The next book in this series from TCEA, The iPad in Elementary: Science, is slated to be in the iBookstore by early 2013.
Danielle Gaither ’98 is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in computer science and engineering at the University of North Texas.

Curtis Hosek ’99 and his wife Ashley had a baby girl named Sophie.

Jennifer (Tidwell) Faulkner ’01 and Jody Faulkner were united in marriage on June 16, 2012, at The Club at Sonterra in San Antonio. Jenny obtained her CPA license in 2007 and is employed at Argo Group as a tax manager. The couple resides in Floresville.

Christi (Lornez) Quintanilla ’02 received her masters of business administration from Le Tourneau University on May, 12, 2012.  

Justin Krueger ’03 was awarded the 2012 National History Day, Patricia Behring Teacher of the Year for the State of Texas.

Rachel (Ziese) Hacker ’04 began serving as Campus Pastor at the University of Nebraska at Kearney on August 1, 2012.

Trey Daum ’05 was called to serve as Pastor by Springdale Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, S. D. His ordination was held at Peace Lutheran Church in New Braunfels on September 9, 2012 by Bishop Ray Tiemann.

Misti (Thomas) Hair ’05 and her husband Justin are expecting their first child together in February 2013. The couple has three children from separate marriages.

Lauren (Mueller) ’05 and Wojtek Jakubowski gathered with family and friends in a wedding celebration on August 11, 2012 in Lodz, Poland.

Lauren C. Parke ’05 traveled across the country with the 2012 Soulforce Equality Ride, advocating for LGBTQ justice. She then graduated from Eastern Mennonite University’s Center for Justice and Peacebuilding with her masters in conflict transformation this past June 2012.
Erica (Beck) Leu ’06 and her husband Aaron welcomed Jacob Rhys to their family. He was born on October 23, 2012 in Austin, Texas. Jacob was also welcomed by his older brother Tyler who is two and a half. 

Kevin Baker ’07 was ordained the new pastor at Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church in Elmwood Park on December 8, 2012.

Jeffery Bergeron ’08 was ordained on June 10, 2012.

Mallory Grau ’08 and husband Micah, along with son Eli welcomed their second child, Norah Emmalyn on May 29, 2012. She weighed 9lbs. 5oz.

Kenneth Kovach ’09 was commissioned as an Infantry officer in the US Army after graduating from TLU. When he finished training at Fort Benning, Ga. he was stationed at Fort Campbell, Ky. where he deployed to Afghanistan during 2010-2011. He is married to Andrea (Van Valkenburg) Kovach ’09. They currently have a daughter, Isabella age one, and another baby on the way. Kenneth has been continuing his education at Texas State University with a master in political science which he hopes to complete in the next few years.   

Carly Hansen ’10 completed her masters of Science degree in medical physics from East Carolina University in May of 2012. She is currently working as a health physicist for the Texas Department of State Health Services Radiation Control Program.  

Eliesha (Hernandez-Davis) Lopez ’10 works for Liberty Mutual Insurance in New Braunfels. 

Travis Turner ’10 completed his masters of Science degree in May of 2012 from West Virginia University. He currently holds a position as an athletic trainer with the St. Louis Rams, but recently accepted a job with the Houston Texans which he will begin in May of 2013.

Sarah Marie Flores ’12 is currently serving with AmeriCorps as a corps member of City Year in San Antonio.

Sarah Elizabeth Skains ’12 is engaged to marry Andy Padron, offensive coordinator for TLU’s football team, this March 2013. The couple is so excited for the big day and all the fun festivities leading up to the event.
