BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor improved to 9-6 overall and to 7-4 in the American Southwest Conference with a 93-74 victory Thursday over Texas Lutheran.
UMHB opened up a 44-29 lead at the half and started the second half with a 20-6 run.
The Crusaders led by as many as 32 in the second half.
TLU dropped to 2-12 overall and to 2-9 in the ASC West with its eighth consecutive loss.
UMHB forward Tilmon Gaddy led all players with 22 points. Gaddy hit seven of his nine shot attempts and grabbed 10 rebounds. He also collected two assists, two blocks and six steals.
Tim Lytle, Zane Johnston and Matt Caskey also hit double figures for the Crusaders. Lytle nailed three three-pointers and finished with 13 points. Johnston and Caskey each scored 10.
The Crusaders shot 62.6 percent from the field in the first half and 60 percent in the second. UMHB went to the free throw line 36 times and made 27.
TLU was held to 39 percent shooting overall and to 5-for-14 from the three-point line.
The game contained 69 total turnovers. UMHB turned the ball over 35 times, and TLU committed 34 turnovers.
Jonathan Hutton (Austin/Lake Travis) led TLU with 15 points. Hutton also recorded four steals. Nate Walton (Houston/Westside) scored 14 points on 4-of-14 shooting.
The Bulldogs return home to Memorial Gymnasium for Saturday’s 3 p.m. ASC contest against Concordia Texas.
