SEGUIN – The Center for Professional Development at Texas Lutheran University is offering another opportunity to prepare for an entry level dental assisting position in one of the fastest growing health care fields.
The 10-week, 100-hour Dental Assisting Program includes the anatomy, terminology, legal and ethical issues as well as the policy and guidelines necessary to understand the scope and the practical aspects of dental assisting.
Students will learn about instrument identification, equipment maintenance, tooth structure, oral cavity anatomy, dental anesthesia, sterilization, tooth charting, restorations, bridge implants, bitewing, panograph, and periapical x-ray, and the mixing of dental cements. They will learn how to assist the dentist while providing quality dental care within the community.
Additionally, this program includes a CPR certification course and prepares students to take the State of Texas Registered Dental Assistant (RDT) Exam.
Classes will be held on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, 6-9:30 p.m., and on four Saturdays from Sept. 23 until Dec. 13. The $1,799 fee includes texts and materials. Some students may qualify for assistance from the Texas Workforce Commission to participate in the Dental Assisting Program. For more information, contact your local Workforce Center.
