Texas Lutheran sophomore forward Kaysie Boomhower has been voted onto the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District 6 First Team for Women’s Soccer.

Texas Lutheran goalkeeper Marlena Ashby was named to the American Southwest Conference Women's Soccer All-ASC First Team as announced by the conference office after a vote of the league's 14 head coaches.

Ashby, a senior from Marble Falls (Marble Falls), was joined on the All-ASC teams by sophomore defender Rachel Schafer (Albuquerque, N.M./Eldorado), sophomore forward Kaysie Boomhower (San Antonio/Madison), and senior midfielder Kristin Meloni (San Antonio/Madison).

Texas Lutheran senior middle blocker Jamie Jahns received Honorable Mention on the 2009 American Volleyball Coaches Association NCAA Division III All-South Region Team.

Texas Lutheran University middle blocker Jamie Jahns and outside hitter Jessica Stetler each were named to the 2009 American Southwest Conference All-Conference Team.

Jahns and Stetler are repeat honorees on the All-ASC Team. For Jahns, 2009 is the third consecutive year that she has appeared on the All-ASC squad.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs (20-10) ended their 2009 season with a three-game loss in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament semifinal match against University of Texas-Dallas.

The Bulldogs opened the tournament Friday afternoon with a three-game win over Mississippi College.

Texas Lutheran Bulldog greats Richard Miller (football), Lili Torres-Ramirez (women’s tennis), Aaron Merhoff (baseball), Craig Saunders (men’s basketball) and Madeline Klasing Williams (women’s volleyball) will be inducted into the Texas Lutheran Athletics Hall of Fame during TLU Homecoming ceremonies this weekend.

TLU also will recognize its Athletics Leadership Wall of Honor Class of 2009. This year’s inductees are the Honorable Edmund Kuempel and Ken and Linda Voges.

Live video and live stats will be available for tonight's American Southwest Conference volleyball match-up between Texas Lutheran and Concordia Texas. TLU (18-7 overall, 13-4 ASC West) can clinch the No. 2 seed from the ASC West with a win tonight over the Tornados.

Tonight's match is also the final home match for TLU seniors Amanda Curry and Jamie Jahns.

Texas Lutheran will have live video for tonight's women's volleyball match against Howard Payne University. The American Southwest Conference match is set for a 6 p.m. start in TLU's Tostengard Activity Center.

The Bulldogs (12-5, 9-3) sit a half-game out of first place in the ASC West Division. HPU (7-11, 5-5) is in fifth place in the division. TLU swept a three-game match from the Yellow Jackets back on Sept. 29.

McMurry's Carla Lewis finished second overall and led her McMurry teammates to the women's cross country team title at the Texas DIII Championships, contested Saturday at Texas Lutheran University.

TLU finished in fifth place in the women's standings. TLU received an eighth-place finish from junior Tiffany Wetz (Spring Branch/Bracken Christian/UT-San Antonio) and a 11th-place showing from freshman Chelsea Johnson (Katy/Cinco Ranch).

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs out-shot the Schreiner women's soccer team 34-12 and had 14 shots on goal, but TLU came away without a goal and tied Schreiner 0-0 after 110 minutes of scoreless play.

The Bulldogs host a soccer doubleheader today (Friday) against Schreiner University. The women’s match starts at 1 p.m., and the men’s match begins at 4 p.m. TLU will have live video (with audio) for both matches.

The women’s team currently sits in 10th place in the ASC with a conference mark of 0-1-1. TLU’s overall record stands at 2-3-1. The men’s team is tied for 12th in the ASC with a conference record of 0-2. The Bulldogs overall record sits at 0-5.

The American Southwest Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its annual meeting on Monday (Sept. 21) at the Holiday Inn Select-North Dallas hotel. Each of the ASC’s 15 member institutions were represented with at least one advisor and two student-athletes.

TLU women's volleyball player Jamie Jahns handled vice-chair duties at the meeting.

The American Southwest Conference has partnered with Clear Marketing Concepts in developing a weekly online video production that will highlight student-athletes, coaches, member institutions, games and academics. The show about the 15-member NCAA Division III-affiliated athletic conference will be called ASC All Access and produced every Wednesday throughout the academic year. ASC All Access debuted on Sept. 16.

ASC All Access can be viewed by logging onto www.ASCsports.org/AllAccess or through any of the ASC’s 15 member institutions’ athletic websites.

The 25th Annual Bulldog 5K will be held Saturday, Nov. 7 as part of the Texas Lutheran Homecoming festivities on the weekend of Nov. 6-8.

In addition to the Bulldog 5K, which is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. start on the TLU campus, a Kids 1K will also be contested. The Kids 1K will start at 8 a.m.

Texas Lutheran senior Angela Aufderhaar (Seguin/Seguin) captured the TLU Lady Bulldog Fall Classic Tuesday.

Aufderhaar punctuated her six-shot win with a final-round 73 at her home course, Max Starcke Park Municipal Golf Course.

Aufderhaar, the American Southwest Conference runner-up in 2009, posted rounds of 77 and 73 for a final tournament score of 150.

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor shot an opening-round 326 Monday to take a seven-shot lead into Tuesday’s final round of the Texas Lutheran Lady Bulldog Fall Classic.

At Max Starcke Park Municipal Golf Course, the Crusaders put four players in the Top 10 on day one. Courtney Nelson led the way with a 79.

Nelson is two shots off the individual lead, held by TLU’s Angela Aufderhaar. The Bulldog opened her senior year with a 77.

The Texas Lutheran women’s volleyball team pushed 2008 NCAA Division III runner-up La Verne, the current No.-3 ranked team in DIII, to five games Saturday at the Pacific Coast Classic. TLU finished 3-1 at the tournament, hosted by Pomona-Pitzer Colleges. TLU defeated Pomona-Pitzer earlier on Saturday.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs are 2-0 after day one of the Pacific Coast Classic volleyball tournament in Claremont, Calif. The Bulldogs survived a late-night match at Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, defeating CMS in five games by a count of 25-21, 26-24, 17-25, 9-25, 15-10.

Bulldogs defeated Chapman (Calif.) in three games earlier in the day. Bulldogs play No. 3-ranked La Verne (Calif.) and host Pomona-Pitzer on Saturday.

The Texas Lutheran women’s volleyball team opened its 2009 season in convincing fashion Friday afternoon with a 25-18, 25-14, 25-18 win over Chapman University (Calif.).

TLU plays again tonight in the Pacific Coast Classic in Claremont, Calif. The Bulldogs are set to play Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 8:30 pm. central (6:30 p.m. pacific).

The Texas Lutheran women’s cross country season started Tuesday morning at the Trinity Opener, held at San Antonio’s Olmos Park.

TLU junior Tiffany Wetz (Spring Branch/Bracken Christian/Texas-San Antonio) was the top Bulldog finisher. Wetz placed ninth overall with a two-mile time of 13 minutes, 10 seconds.

The Texas Lutheran men's soccer team still opens its 2009 season at home on Tuesday, Sept. 1. The match time for the TLU v. Southwestern match is set for 5 p.m. at TLU's Gustafson Field. TLU will have live video and audio for this season-opening match.
 
The men's soccer match between Texas Lutheran and Trinity, to be played Friday, Sept. 4 at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas, will have a 3 p.m. kickoff. The match was originally scheduled for 4 p.m. start.

The Texas Lutheran women’s 4x100 meter relay team, the defending NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field national champion, did not reach the national championship final after finishing fourth in its heat Thursday.

Senior sprinter Staci Jackson also missed on a national championship final after placing third in a 200 heat Thursday.

Senior sprinter Staci Jackson and the Texas Lutheran women's 4x100 meter relay team take to the track today (Thursday) at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.

The Bulldogs will race in Heat 1 of the 4x100 at 4 p.m. eastern (3 p.m. central). Other teams in the heat are: College of New Jersey, Emory, Roanoke, and Cabrini. TLU will race from the far outside lane of the heat (Lane 7).

Staci Jackson also races in Heat 3 of the 200 meter dash today (Thursday). The 200 heats start at 6:15 eastern (5:15 central). Jackson will start from Lane 7 in Heat 3.

The Texas Lutheran women’s track and field team scored 149.33 points and finished second in the team standings at the 2009 American Southwest Conference Track & Field Championships, completed Saturday at Mississippi College.

After receiving winning performances Friday in the 3,000-meter steeplechase from Brooke Basey and in the 10,000 meters from Tiffany Wetz, the Bulldogs won six events Saturday. TLU captured titles in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, the 200 (Staci Jackson), the 400 (Jackson), the 800 (Jackson), and the 5,000 (Wetz).

Inclement weather in the Seguin area has moved the Texas Lutheran/Mary Hardin-Baylor softball series to Sunday and Monday at TLU's Morck Field in Seguin, Texas. The four-game series originally was set for Friday and Saturday, also at Morck Field.

Now, Sunday's doubleheader is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start, and Monday's doubleheader is set for a 1 p.m. start.

TLU will provide live audio webcasts and live stats for all four games of this American Southwest Conference softball series. The audio webcasts and live stats can be found at www.tlu.edu/athletics.

TLU enters the series with an overall mark of 9-21 and an ASC West record of 4-12. UMHB is 17-15 overall and 10-6 in the ASC.

This week's notes contain notices about the ASC Player of the Week awards for golfers Angela Aufderhaar and Andrew Long and for softball player Kelsi Loewe. The notes also highlight upcoming events for baseball, softball, women's golf, men's golf, and women's track and field.

The Texas Lutheran men's tennis team posted an 8-1 win Tuesday over Our Lady of the Lake, but OLLU recorded an 8-1 victory over the TLU women.
 
At the St. Mary’s University tennis courts, the TLU men won five of six singles matches and all three doubles matches against the Saints. All five TLU singles matches were straight-set victories.

On the women’s side, OLLU rebounded from a loss 11 days ago to TLU. The Bulldogs won a 5-4 home match over the Saints on March 6. On Tuesday, the TLU women managed only one victory, a 8-1 win from the No. 1 doubles team of Jennifer Hahn (Houston/Sam Houston) and Blair O’Brien (Austin/Manor).

Brigitte Neumann tossed the eighth no-hitter in Texas Lutheran softball history in game two of a doubleheader sweep Monday of Sul Ross State.

At TLU’s Morck Field, TLU won 14-6 in game one and 11-0 in game two as Neumann tossed her gem. Both games ended in the fifth inning because of the 8-run rule.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs opened American Southwest Conference play Sunday with a doubleheader sweep of Sul Ross State. The Bulldogs posted 3-1 and 8-3 victories over the Lady Lobos.

Angela Aufderhaar and Carly Hansen led Texas Lutheran to a fourth-place showing after round one of the TLU Concan Intercollegiate, played Monday at the The Club at Concan.

The Bulldogs opened the tournament with a 372 team score. TLU trails only Southwestern (324), Trinity (351) and McMurry (360) in the tournament.

Texas Lutheran’s Sahara Bragner, Staci Jackson, Devin Evans, and Shyra Walker posted a provisional NCAA Division III Championships time of 48.02 seconds and won the 4x100 meter relay Saturday at the 77th annual Border Olympics in Laredo, Texas.

Saturday at the American Southwest Conference First Pitch Softball Tournament, the Texas Lutheran softball team suffered 15-0 and 17-0 losses to Louisiana College and the University of Texas at Tyler, respectively.

Texas Lutheran posted a 1-1 record during the first day of the American Southwest Conference’s annual First Pitch Softball Tournament, played at Oran Good Park.

TLU defeated LeTourneau 8-5 and lost to East Texas Baptist 9-0 (in five innings).

The Texas Lutheran women and men’s tennis teams posted non-conference victories Friday over Our Lady of the Lake University.

At the TLU tennis courts, the TLU men won 9-0, and the TLU women secured a 5-4 victory.

The St. Mary’s men’s tennis team posted a 6-1 win Thursday over the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs. The win came a day after the St. Mary’s women recorded a 9-0 win over the TLU women.

For taking a winless program and producing seven wins in her first year, Texas Lutheran head women’s basketball coach Roxanne Long was named the American Southwest Conference West Division Co-Coach of the Year.

Long and her first-year forward Tamisha Timpson (San Antonio/Roosevelt) were among the individual award winners announced Wednesday with the release of the 2009 ASC Women’s Basketball All-Conference and All-Division selections.

The Texas Lutheran women's track and field team finished third in the team standings Saturday at the Trinity University Invitational - the first outdoor meet of the season for the Bulldogs.

TLU senior Staci Jackson (Lake Highlands/Lake Highlands/McMurry) won the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.87 seconds. Jackson, a two-time national champion in relays and a multiple All-American winner for the Bulldogs, also ran in the 200 and finished third with a time of 25.54.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs and Trinity Tigers split a softball doubleheader Wednesday at TLU’s Morck Field. The Bulldogs rallied for a 9-7 win in game one, and Trinity notched a 5-2 win in game two.

The Texas Lutheran softball team returns to Morck Field after a 12-day layoff to face Trinity University in a noon doubleheader today (Wednesday). The Bulldogs (1-1) and the Tigers (1-5) will play against each other for the the 47th and 48th times in their respective softball histories. The Bulldogs hold a 32-14 edge in the all-time series. The teams split a doubleheader at Trinity in 2008.

The Texas Lutheran women's tennis team opened its 2009 campaign with a 9-0 road loss Friday at Southwestern. The Bulldogs' Saturday match with St. Mary's in San Antonio was rained out. TLU's next match is set for March 3, at home against St. Mary's. The Bulldogs' match with Mary Hardin-Baylor, originally scheduled for this Friday, has been moved to 10 a.m. on April 10 (still in Seguin).

Texas Lutheran freshmen Sarah Usry and Devin Evans each posted top-five finishes Saturday at the Missouri Southern Invitational indoor track and field meet in Joplin, Mo. The Bulldogs came away with nine season-best marks and one school record.

The TLU women (6-13, 4-11 ASC) play the Sul Ross State women (0-18, 0-15 ASC) at 5:30 p.m. TLU will have a live webcast of the women's game.

Texas Lutheran’s frantic rally from 10 down late in the second half came up short Saturday in a 77-75 conference loss to Concordia Texas.

Pearl Kafoa’s potential game-winning three-pointer from the right corner looked good when it left her hands, but the shot bounced off the rim with one second remaining. The horn sounded as the Bulldogs battled for the rebound.

The TLU men are 2-10 overall and 2-7 in the ASC.
