The Texas Lutheran Athletics Notes for Oct. 19, 2009 contain news and notes on women's cross country, women's volleyball, football, women's soccer, and men's soccer.

The Texas Lutheran/UT-Tyler women’s soccer match, set to begin at 1 p.m. today, has been canceled. The men’s soccer match, also between TLU and UT-Tyler, will be played, starting at 4 p.m.

The Bulldogs defeated Mary Hardin-Baylor 25-20, 24-26, 18-25, 25-19, 15-11 and defeated Mississippi College 15-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-19.

The Bulldogs host a soccer doubleheader today (Friday) against Schreiner University. The women’s match starts at 1 p.m., and the men’s match begins at 4 p.m. TLU will have live video (with audio) for both matches.

The women’s team currently sits in 10th place in the ASC with a conference mark of 0-1-1. TLU’s overall record stands at 2-3-1. The men’s team is tied for 12th in the ASC with a conference record of 0-2. The Bulldogs overall record sits at 0-5.

The American Southwest Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its annual meeting on Monday (Sept. 21) at the Holiday Inn Select-North Dallas hotel. Each of the ASC’s 15 member institutions were represented with at least one advisor and two student-athletes.

TLU women's volleyball player Jamie Jahns handled vice-chair duties at the meeting.

Aufderhaar punctuated her six-shot win with a final-round 73 at her home course, Max Starcke Park Municipal Golf Course.

Aufderhaar, the American Southwest Conference runner-up in 2009, posted rounds of 77 and 73 for a final tournament score of 150.

The Texas Lutheran women’s soccer team scored all three of its goals in the second half in a 3-0 non-conference win Tuesday over Huston-Tillotson.

After receiving winning performances Friday in the 3,000-meter steeplechase from Brooke Basey and in the 10,000 meters from Tiffany Wetz, the Bulldogs won six events Saturday. TLU captured titles in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, the 200 (Staci Jackson), the 400 (Jackson), the 800 (Jackson), and the 5,000 (Wetz).

TLU won 3-0 in the early game and capped the doubleheader with a 9-3 victory.

The Crusaders improved to 19-15 overall and to 12-6 in the American Southwest Conference West Division.

TLU dropped its 13th and 14th consecutive games and fell to 9-23 overall and to 4-14 in the ASC West Division.

Inclement weather in the Seguin area has moved the Texas Lutheran/Mary Hardin-Baylor softball series to Sunday and Monday at TLU's Morck Field in Seguin, Texas. The four-game series originally was set for Friday and Saturday, also at Morck Field.

Now, Sunday's doubleheader is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start, and Monday's doubleheader is set for a 1 p.m. start.

TLU will provide live audio webcasts and live stats for all four games of this American Southwest Conference softball series. The audio webcasts and live stats can be found at www.tlu.edu/athletics.

TLU enters the series with an overall mark of 9-21 and an ASC West record of 4-12. UMHB is 17-15 overall and 10-6 in the ASC.

The Howard Payne Univerisity Yellow Jackets swept two more softball games from Texas Lutheran on Saturday and completed a four-game conference series sweep of the Bulldogs.

The Texas Lutheran – Concordia Texas softball doubleheader on Friday has been moved to a 2 p.m. start at TLU’s Morck Field. The doubleheader was originally scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.

Saturday’s doubleheader between TLU and CTX still is set for a 1 p.m. start at Morck Field.

TLU will have live audio webcasts for all four games from www.tlu.edu/athletics. Live stats will be available for Saturday’s doubleheader.

Texas Lutheran distance runner Tiffany Wetz is this week’s American Southwest Conference Women’s Track & Field Athlete of the Week.

The Texas Lutheran / Hardin-Simmons softball series in Abilene, Texas has been delayed one day because of inclement weather. The series now will start Saturday with a 2 p.m. doubleheader. The series will conclude on Sunday with another 2 p.m. doubleheader. Hardin-Simmons will have live stats for all four games of the series. The Texas Lutheran women’s golf team posted a third-place team finish Tuesday at the conclusion of the University of California at Santa Cruz Invite. At the Pasatiempo Golf Course, TLU placed behind fellow NCAA Division III schools UC-Santa Cruz and George Fox (Ore.) in the team standings. The Bulldogs carded rounds of 388 and 392 in the two-day tournament.

The Texas Lutheran men's tennis team posted an 8-1 win Tuesday over Our Lady of the Lake, but OLLU recorded an 8-1 victory over the TLU women.
 
At the St. Mary’s University tennis courts, the TLU men won five of six singles matches and all three doubles matches against the Saints. All five TLU singles matches were straight-set victories.

On the women’s side, OLLU rebounded from a loss 11 days ago to TLU. The Bulldogs won a 5-4 home match over the Saints on March 6. On Tuesday, the TLU women managed only one victory, a 8-1 win from the No. 1 doubles team of Jennifer Hahn (Houston/Sam Houston) and Blair O’Brien (Austin/Manor).
 

At TLU’s Morck Field, TLU won 14-6 in game one and 11-0 in game two as Neumann tossed her gem. Both games ended in the fifth inning because of the 8-run rule.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs opened American Southwest Conference play Sunday with a doubleheader sweep of Sul Ross State. The Bulldogs posted 3-1 and 8-3 victories over the Lady Lobos.

TLU defeated LeTourneau 8-5 and lost to East Texas Baptist 9-0 (in five innings).

At the TLU tennis courts, the TLU men won 9-0, and the TLU women secured a 5-4 victory.

Defending national champion Howard Payne erased a 12-point halftime deficit and edged Texas Lutheran 62-58 Saturday in TLU’s Memorial Gymnasium.
