Texas Lutheran goalkeeper Marlena Ashby was named to the American Southwest Conference Women's Soccer All-ASC First Team as announced by the conference office after a vote of the league's 14 head coaches.

Ashby, a senior from Marble Falls (Marble Falls), was joined on the All-ASC teams by sophomore defender Rachel Schafer (Albuquerque, N.M./Eldorado), sophomore forward Kaysie Boomhower (San Antonio/Madison), and senior midfielder Kristin Meloni (San Antonio/Madison).

Texas Lutheran University middle blocker Jamie Jahns and outside hitter Jessica Stetler each were named to the 2009 American Southwest Conference All-Conference Team.

Jahns and Stetler are repeat honorees on the All-ASC Team. For Jahns, 2009 is the third consecutive year that she has appeared on the All-ASC squad.

Dennis Parker resigned Monday as head coach of the Texas Lutheran University football team.
 
Parker's resignation will be effective Monday, Nov. 16. He will serve as head coach in the Bulldogs' final game of the 2009 season.
 
TLU plays Mississippi College on Saturday in Clinton, Miss.
 
"We look forward to moving the football program in a new and successful direction," said Bill Miller, TLU's director of athletics. "We thank Coach Parker for his service to TLU, and we wish him well in his future endeavors."

Ben McLaughlin tossed six touchdown passes as the Louisiana College Wildcats spoiled Texas Lutheran’s Homecoming with a 42-3 victory over the Bulldogs Saturday at Seguin’s Matador Stadium.

Texas Lutheran plays host to Louisiana College for the TLU Homecoming game at 2 p.m. Saturday in Seguin’s Matador Stadium.

Saturday’s contest also is the final home game for 12 Bulldog seniors: Ben Cooper, John Jackson, Brandon McCoy, Joseph Mendoza, James Moore, Jonathon Randle, Shawn Small, Anthony Smith, Steve Thrash, Frank Vera, James Villarreal, and Eric Walker.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs (20-10) ended their 2009 season with a three-game loss in the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament semifinal match against University of Texas-Dallas.

The Bulldogs opened the tournament Friday afternoon with a three-game win over Mississippi College.

Texas Lutheran Bulldog greats Richard Miller (football), Lili Torres-Ramirez (women’s tennis), Aaron Merhoff (baseball), Craig Saunders (men’s basketball) and Madeline Klasing Williams (women’s volleyball) will be inducted into the Texas Lutheran Athletics Hall of Fame during TLU Homecoming ceremonies this weekend.

TLU also will recognize its Athletics Leadership Wall of Honor Class of 2009. This year’s inductees are the Honorable Edmund Kuempel and Ken and Linda Voges.

Tonight's match is also the final home match for TLU seniors Amanda Curry and Jamie Jahns.

The Bulldogs (12-5, 9-3) sit a half-game out of first place in the ASC West Division. HPU (7-11, 5-5) is in fifth place in the division. TLU swept a three-game match from the Yellow Jackets back on Sept. 29.

Texas Lutheran committed seven turnovers Saturday in a 45-23 American Southwest Conference loss to Howard Payne at Seguin’s Matador Stadium.

The seven turnovers matched the most single-game turnovers for the Bulldogs since reinstating football in 1998. TLU dropped to 0-4 overall and to 0-3 in the American Southwest Conference.

The Bulldogs defeated Mary Hardin-Baylor 25-20, 24-26, 18-25, 25-19, 15-11 and defeated Mississippi College 15-25, 25-16, 25-20, 25-19.

Texas Lutheran and Howard Payne are in search of their first American Southwest Conference victory of 2009. The two teams meet at 2 p.m. Saturday at Seguin’s Matador Stadium.

TLU will have live video of the game. Live audio for the game will be provided by Seguin radio station KWED 1580 AM.

TLU is 0-3 overall and 0-2 in the ASC after a difficult 32-21 loss on the road to East Texas Baptist. HPU is 2-1 overall and 0-1 in the conference after a loss last week to Sul Ross State. TLU has won the last three contests against Howard Payne.

McMurry's Carla Lewis finished second overall and led her McMurry teammates to the women's cross country team title at the Texas DIII Championships, contested Saturday at Texas Lutheran University.

TLU finished in fifth place in the women's standings. TLU received an eighth-place finish from junior Tiffany Wetz (Spring Branch/Bracken Christian/UT-San Antonio) and a 11th-place showing from freshman Chelsea Johnson (Katy/Cinco Ranch).

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs out-shot the Schreiner women's soccer team 34-12 and had 14 shots on goal, but TLU came away without a goal and tied Schreiner 0-0 after 110 minutes of scoreless play.

The American Southwest Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) held its annual meeting on Monday (Sept. 21) at the Holiday Inn Select-North Dallas hotel. Each of the ASC’s 15 member institutions were represented with at least one advisor and two student-athletes.

TLU women's volleyball player Jamie Jahns handled vice-chair duties at the meeting.

The show about the 15-member NCAA Division III-affiliated athletic conference will be called ASC All Access and produced every Wednesday throughout the academic year. ASC All Access debuted on Sept. 16.

The 25th Annual Bulldog 5K will be held Saturday, Nov. 7 as part of the Texas Lutheran Homecoming festivities on the weekend of Nov. 6-8.

In addition to the Bulldog 5K, which is scheduled for an 8:30 a.m. start on the TLU campus, a Kids 1K will also be contested. The Kids 1K will start at 8 a.m.

Texas Lutheran senior Angela Aufderhaar (Seguin/Seguin) captured the TLU Lady Bulldog Fall Classic Tuesday.

Aufderhaar punctuated her six-shot win with a final-round 73 at her home course, Max Starcke Park Municipal Golf Course.

Aufderhaar, the American Southwest Conference runner-up in 2009, posted rounds of 77 and 73 for a final tournament score of 150.

The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor shot an opening-round 326 Monday to take a seven-shot lead into Tuesday’s final round of the Texas Lutheran Lady Bulldog Fall Classic.

At Max Starcke Park Municipal Golf Course, the Crusaders put four players in the Top 10 on day one. Courtney Nelson led the way with a 79.

Nelson is two shots off the individual lead, held by TLU’s Angela Aufderhaar. The Bulldog opened her senior year with a 77.

Texas Lutheran senior punter Frank Vera (Laredo/Nixon) has been named the American Southwest Conference Special Teams Player of the Week.

Vera earned the ASC weekly honor after throwing for a touchdown on a fake field goal and after pinning five punts inside the 20-yard line in TLU's 22-21 loss Saturday to Trinity.

The Texas Lutheran women’s 4x100 meter relay team, the defending NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field national champion, did not reach the national championship final after finishing fourth in its heat Thursday.

Senior sprinter Staci Jackson also missed on a national championship final after placing third in a 200 heat Thursday.

Senior sprinter Staci Jackson and the Texas Lutheran women's 4x100 meter relay team take to the track today (Thursday) at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.

The Bulldogs will race in Heat 1 of the 4x100 at 4 p.m. eastern (3 p.m. central). Other teams in the heat are: College of New Jersey, Emory, Roanoke, and Cabrini. TLU will race from the far outside lane of the heat (Lane 7).

Staci Jackson also races in Heat 3 of the 200 meter dash today (Thursday). The 200 heats start at 6:15 eastern (5:15 central). Jackson will start from Lane 7 in Heat 3.

Texas Lutheran senior third baseman/pitcher Jeremy Macklin and freshman pitcher Brad Orosey were each named to the D3baseball.com 2009 All-America Team.

Orosey (Houston/Cypress Creek) and Macklin (Austin/Bowie/Huston-Tillotson) were joined on the NCAA Division III All-West Region Team by senior center fielder Kyle Harvey (Houston/Houston Christian).

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs face elimination today at the 2009 ASC Championship Tournament Series. After Friday's 7-6 loss to the University of Texas at Tyler, the Bulldogs meet the University of Texas at Dallas at noon today at Mississippi College's Frierson Field. UT-Dallas fell 10-0 to MC on Friday night.

Seguin radio station KWED 1580 AM will have live broadcasts of all TLU baseball playoff games from the conference tournament. Pre-game for Saturday's game starts at 11:50 a.m. KWED also will stream the broadcasts online from www.seguintoday.com. Mississippi College will provide live stats.

The Texas Lutheran women’s track and field team scored 149.33 points and finished second in the team standings at the 2009 American Southwest Conference Track & Field Championships, completed Saturday at Mississippi College.

After receiving winning performances Friday in the 3,000-meter steeplechase from Brooke Basey and in the 10,000 meters from Tiffany Wetz, the Bulldogs won six events Saturday. TLU captured titles in the 4x100 and 4x400 relays, the 200 (Staci Jackson), the 400 (Jackson), the 800 (Jackson), and the 5,000 (Wetz).

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs collected a softball split Saturday in American Southwest Conference play against Schreiner University. TLU took game one 4-1 and lost game two 13-0 in Kerrville, Texas.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs host the University of the Ozarks (Ark.) in a best 2-of-3 series, starting at 2 p.m. Friday from TLU's Katt-Isbel Field. Game two of the series will start at 11 a.m. Saturday, also at Katt-Isbel Field. Game three of the series, if necessary, will start 30 minutes after game two.

All games are scheduled for nine innings. Admission charges are $5 for adults and $3 kids 10-18. TLU students, faculty and staff receive free admission to all series games.

TLU will have live stats and live audio webcasts (through Seguin radio station KWED 1580 AM). KWED 1580 AM will broadcast all TLU baseball playoff games in 2009.

Texas Lutheran’s Angela Aufderhaar finished second by four shots at the 2009 American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament, and the junior from Seguin came away with the conference’s Women’s Golf Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year honor.

The Texas Lutheran men’s golf team finished in sixth place at the 2009 American Southwest Conference Men’s Golf Championship Tournament.

The Bulldogs were sixth entering Tuesday’s final round at Hurricane Creek Country Club in Anna, Texas. TLU’s final team score was a 945.

TLU closed the tournament with its best round of the championships, a 311. The Bulldogs carded team totals of 313 and 321 in rounds one and two on Monday.

A year after finishing fifth in the ASC West, the Bulldogs (28-13, 16-5 ASC West) won their seventh ASC West crown in nine years with a 4-1 win over Hardin-Simmons in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader at Hunter Field.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs are one win from their seventh American Southwest Conference West Division title in nine years after defeating Hardin-Simmons 19-11 on Friday at HSU’s Hunter Field.

TLU (27-11, 15-4 ASC West) needs just one win in Saturday’s doubleheader against Hardin-Simmons (23-15, 13-6) to claim the division crown. The twin bill at Hunter Field is set for a 1 p.m. start.

Inclement weather in the Seguin area has moved the Texas Lutheran/Mary Hardin-Baylor softball series to Sunday and Monday at TLU's Morck Field in Seguin, Texas. The four-game series originally was set for Friday and Saturday, also at Morck Field.

Now, Sunday's doubleheader is scheduled for a 2 p.m. start, and Monday's doubleheader is set for a 1 p.m. start.

TLU will provide live audio webcasts and live stats for all four games of this American Southwest Conference softball series. The audio webcasts and live stats can be found at www.tlu.edu/athletics.

TLU enters the series with an overall mark of 9-21 and an ASC West record of 4-12. UMHB is 17-15 overall and 10-6 in the ASC.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs will take on the Southwestern Pirates today at 5 p.m. in non-conference baseball action from Georgetown, Texas. TLU will have a live audio webcast of the game, and Southwestern will provide live stats of the contest.

TLU enters the game with a 22-11 overall mark and a 11-4 record in the ASC West Division. Southwestern stands at 15-16 overall and at 8-6 in the SCAC after splitting two games on the road with No. 2 Millsaps. TLU defeated Southwestern 14-6 back on Feb. 17 in Seguin.

The 2009 Texas Lutheran baseball season marks the 60th anniversary of the 1949 Bulldog Baseball Team, Texas Lutheran’s first senior college baseball team. Between games of Saturday’s doubleheader with Mary Hardin-Baylor, TLU honored the surviving members of the 1949 team in a special ceremony. The 1949 team also attended a luncheon at TLU prior to the Saturday doubleheader.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs and the Mary Hardin-Baylor Crusaders battle for first place in the American Southwest Conference West Division in today's 9-inning game at TLU's Katt-Isbel Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m. TLU and UMHB each bring 6-3 division records into today's contest.

TLU will have live stats and live audio webcasts of all three games of this ASC West series. Saturday's doubleheader starts at noon, also at Katt-Isbel.

The Texas Lutheran / Hardin-Simmons softball series in Abilene, Texas has been delayed one day because of inclement weather. The series now will start Saturday with a 2 p.m. doubleheader. The series will conclude on Sunday with another 2 p.m. doubleheader. Hardin-Simmons will have live stats for all four games of the series. Texas Lutheran’s Angela Aufderhaar has been named the American Southwest Conference Women’s Golfer of the Week for a second straight week. Aufderhaar, a junior from Seguin (Seguin), fired rounds of 85 and 89 in placing fifth overall at the University of California-Santa Cruz Invitational at Pasatiempo Golf Course in Santa Cruz, Calif.

The Texas Lutheran women’s golf team posted a third-place team finish Tuesday at the conclusion of the University of California at Santa Cruz Invite. At the Pasatiempo Golf Course, TLU placed behind fellow NCAA Division III schools UC-Santa Cruz and George Fox (Ore.) in the team standings. The Bulldogs carded rounds of 388 and 392 in the two-day tournament.

The Texas Lutheran women and men’s tennis teams each dropped American Southwest Conference West Division tennis matches to McMurry on Friday.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs completed a three-game baseball series sweep of Howard Payne with 13-3 and 16-8 victories Saturday at HPU’s Don Shepard Park.

TLU moved to 25-2 all-time against Howard Payne with the three victories over Friday and Saturday. TLU captured an 8-7 win Friday at Shepard Park.

The Bulldogs overall record now stands 17-9 overall with a 6-3 mark in the American Southwest Conference West Division. Howard Payne dropped to 11-13 overall and to 4-5 in the ASC West.

Clay Childress hit a solo home run in the ninth inning to lift Texas Lutheran to an 8-7 win Friday over Howard Payne. At HPU's Don Shepard Park in Brownwood, the Childress blast to left-center capped a five-run outburst by the Bulldogs over the final three innings of play. The home run was the third of the season for the junior first baseman Childress (Houston/Jersey Village/Eastfield JC).

TLU improved to 15-9 overall and to 4-3 in the American Southwest Conference West Division. TLU and Howard Payne will play a Saturday doubleheader, starting at 1 p.m. at HPU's Don Shepard Park. TLU will have live audio webcasts of both games. HPU will provide live stats.

The Bulldgos are 8-6 overall and 4-0 in the American Southwest Conference. The Ravens are 9-7 coming off a doubleheader sweep Wednesday of Trinity.

Eight Texas Lutheran basketball players have been named to the American Southwest Conference Academic All-Conference teams for women’s and men’s basketball.

This year's honorees for men's basketball include: Malcolm Dotson, Jonathan Hutton, Michael Johnson, Josh Scott, Drew Smith and Nate Walton. The TLU women's honorees are Madilyn Caran and Jessica Macias.

The Texas Lutheran men's tennis team posted an 8-1 win Tuesday over Our Lady of the Lake, but OLLU recorded an 8-1 victory over the TLU women.
 
At the St. Mary’s University tennis courts, the TLU men won five of six singles matches and all three doubles matches against the Saints. All five TLU singles matches were straight-set victories.

On the women’s side, OLLU rebounded from a loss 11 days ago to TLU. The Bulldogs won a 5-4 home match over the Saints on March 6. On Tuesday, the TLU women managed only one victory, a 8-1 win from the No. 1 doubles team of Jennifer Hahn (Houston/Sam Houston) and Blair O’Brien (Austin/Manor).

Brigitte Neumann tossed the eighth no-hitter in Texas Lutheran softball history in game two of a doubleheader sweep Monday of Sul Ross State.

At TLU’s Morck Field, TLU won 14-6 in game one and 11-0 in game two as Neumann tossed her gem. Both games ended in the fifth inning because of the 8-run rule.

The freshman right-hander from Houston (Cypress Creek HS) picked up the complete-game win Saturday in a 2-1 victory over West Division opponent Concordia Texas.

The Bulldogs opened the tournament with a 372 team score. TLU trails only Southwestern (324), Trinity (351) and McMurry (360) in the tournament.

With a doubleheader split Saturday at TLU’s Katt-Isbel Field, the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs took two out of three games from Concordia Texas in an American Southwest Conference series.

TLU took game one Saturday 2-1, and Concordia Texas won game two 3-2. TLU captured the opening game of the series, on Friday, with a 3-2 win.

In Saturday’s first contest, Ryan Nokelby (Santa Fe/Santa Fe) hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift the Bulldogs and freshman starting pitcher Brad Orosey (Houston/Cypress Creek) past the Tornados.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs and Concordia Texas Tornados take to TLU's Katt-Isbel Field today for a noon doubleheader. The Bulldogs grabbed game one of the conference series by a count of 3-2. Junior right-hander Travis Staggs tossed a complete game for the Bulldogs, and senior catcher Chris Siniff drove in two runs.

Freshman right-hander Brad Orosey (pictured) is scheduled to take the mound for the Bulldogs in the early game today. Both games of the doubleheader will have live stats and live audio webcasts (links below).

For taking a winless program and producing seven wins in her first year, Texas Lutheran head women’s basketball coach Roxanne Long was named the American Southwest Conference West Division Co-Coach of the Year.

Long and her first-year forward Tamisha Timpson (San Antonio/Roosevelt) were among the individual award winners announced Wednesday with the release of the 2009 ASC Women’s Basketball All-Conference and All-Division selections.

The Texas Lutheran women's track and field team finished third in the team standings Saturday at the Trinity University Invitational - the first outdoor meet of the season for the Bulldogs.

TLU senior Staci Jackson (Lake Highlands/Lake Highlands/McMurry) won the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.87 seconds. Jackson, a two-time national champion in relays and a multiple All-American winner for the Bulldogs, also ran in the 200 and finished third with a time of 25.54.

The Callaway Gardens Invitational golf tournament in Pine Mountain, Ga. has been canceled due to the severe weather in the region. Huntingdon College, the host of the tournament, reports that snow is still on the ground at the course. The snow and the hard rains on Friday and Saturday have made the course unplayable. The Texas Lutheran men's golf team was scheduled to play in the tournament, one of the top NCAA Division III tournaments of the year.

With the wind blowing out at Katt-Isbel Field at up to 40 mph, the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs produced runs in all but two innings Saturday in 17-7 and 19-12 wins over Mississippi College.

TLU third baseman Jeremy Macklin (Austin/Bowie/Huston-Tillotson) set a school record for RBI in a doubleheader, with 14. He tied the school record for RBI in a single game, with eight in the first game.

The Texas Lutheran softball team returns to Morck Field after a 12-day layoff to face Trinity University in a noon doubleheader today (Wednesday). The Bulldogs (1-1) and the Tigers (1-5) will play against each other for the the 47th and 48th times in their respective softball histories. The Bulldogs hold a 32-14 edge in the all-time series. The teams split a doubleheader at Trinity in 2008.

TLU's next match is set for March 3, at home against St. Mary's. The Bulldogs' match with Mary Hardin-Baylor, originally scheduled for this Friday, has been moved to 10 a.m. on April 10 (still in Seguin).

The Texas Lutheran men's tennis team started the 2009 season with non-conference losses to Trinity (Feb. 14) and Southwestern (Feb. 20). The Bulldogs fell in San Antonio to Trinity by a count of 9-0 and dropped a 5-4 decision to Southwestern in Georgetown.

The Bulldogs scheduled match with St. Mary's on Saturday was rained out. A make-up date has not been announced.

The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs host the Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls and Cowboys in American Southwest Conference basketball action Saturday at TLU's Memorial Gymnasium. The games will be the final collegiate contests for TLU seniors Madilyn Caran, Josh Scott and Nate Walton.

The women's game starts at 1 p.m., and the men's game begins at 3 p.m. TLU will have live stats and webcasts for both contests.

TLU won the three-game series 2-1. The Bulldogs and Kangaroos split a Saturday doubleheader in Seguin.

The Texas Lutheran baseball team concludes a three-game series with Austin College today. First pitch for the single, nine-inning game is set for noon from TLU's Katt-Isbel Field. On Saturday, Austin College won game one of the series 6-2 before TLU captured the second game 10-0. Each team is 1-1 entering today's contest.
