World’s Most Famous Brass Group to Perform at TLU
January 10, 2011
World renowned brass ensemble, Canadian Brass, will grace the stage of Texas Lutheran University’s Jackson Auditorium on Wednesday, February 16, 2011 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the performance will be available at the TLU Bookstore in the Alumni Student Center beginning January 18 and are $10 for general admission with first come, first served seating. TLU Bookstore hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.
Founded in 1970 in Ontario, Canada by Dr. Charles Daellenbach and Gene Watts, Canadian Brass has recorded more than 90 albums and spends much of the year touring to nearly every corner of the globe. The group has played in the former Soviet Union, Japan, Australia, China, Europe, and the Middle East. They have also performed for television audiences in the U.S. with appearances on the Tonight Show, Today, and Entertainment Tonight.
With their trademark sleek black suits paired with white athletic shoes, the group has access to an amazing repertoire of more than 200 works that range from Bach to Gershwin and Latin music to the ragtime of Scott Joplin. The current lineup features Daellenbach on tuba, Christopher Coletti and Brandon Ridenour on trumpet, Eric Reed on horn, and Keith Dyrda on trombone.
“This is one of the premier brass performing groups in the world,” said Beth Bronk, director of bands at TLU’s Schools of Music. Bronk, who plays trumpet in the Prince Solms Brass Quintet, said it will be great for all musicians to see Canadian Brass’ upcoming performance at TLU and young brass players will be particularly inspired. “To bring Canadian Brass to TLU is significant for our music students and also the entire community.”
