| Good-bye Townhouses! – July 23 was demolition day for TLU’s Stuermer Hall – aka “The Townhouses.” Built in 1977, Stuermer had been a favorite of students for many years, but more recently had deteriorated to the point that repairing it was cost prohibitive. Plans are currently being developed for future use of the space. |
TLU Today

| Anthony Smith |
Football – TLU opens its 2008 preseason camp Aug. 11 under second-year head coach Dennis Parker with 50 lettermen returning from the 2007 squad. Among the returnees are junior running back Anthony Smith and senior defensive back Dwight Bonner, who were each named to the ASC All-Conference Team last season.
Smith was a Second Team All-ASC choice and was named the TLU David Wehmeyer Most Valuable Offensive Player (non-lineman award), the TLU Mike Washington Most Valuable Offensive Player and the TLU Jim Wacker Most Valuable Player.
Smith rushed for a TLU NCAA Division III-era record 1,066 yards and scored a team-best 66 points. Smith led the ASC in all purpose yards (a school-record 1,989) and finished fifth in NCAA Division III in all-purpose yards per game (198.9).
Bonner, a First Team All-ASC selection in 2007, was second on the team in tackles, with 69, and second in the conference for tackles among defensive backs. Bonner had 5.5 tackles for loss for nine yards. He also intercepted three passes for 56 yards and had eight pass break-ups. Bonner scored on a blocked punt in the three-overtime road loss to Sul Ross State. Bonner’s three interceptions brought his career total to 12.
The Bulldogs will also welcome back fifth-year quarterback Joel Waldon, who missed nearly all of the 2007 season after a knee-injury in the season-opener. Waldon received a medical redshirt and enters the 2008 preseason camp as the team’s starting quarterback.
The Bulldogs will hit the field on Sept. 6 with a non-conference road game in Alpine against Sul Ross State and open at home against Trinity at 6 p.m. on Sept. 13 in Matador Stadium.
