| Honoree John T. Montford with President Ann Svennungsen and Gov. Dolph Briscoe at the 7th annual Excellence in Leadership Dinner last week in San Antonio. The dinner raised a record $95,000 for endowed scholarships for TLU. |
TLU Today
Leadership Dinner – TLU honored AT&T executive John T. Montford Nov. 1 at the seventh annual Texas Lutheran University Excellence in Leadership Dinner in San Antonio. The dinner this year had an entertaining new format as President Ann M. Svennungsen and Montford held a conversation on leadership where Montford shared his thoughts from his days at AT&T, as a Texas state senator, a tenured professor, a small business owner, a district attorney, a college student, and the Chancellor of Texas Tech.
The dinner brought in an initial estimate exceeding $95,000 – a record for the annual event. Proceeds from the dinner support Texas Lutheran University’s Presidential Award for Leadership and Service Endowed Scholarship Fund, which provides financial assistance to students who have demonstrated leadership abilities on campus and in their churches and communities and who participate in TLU’s leadership development program.
The Texas Lutheran University Excellence in Leadership Dinner annually honors business, community, and civic leaders. Past honorees are Judge Nelson Wolff and Tracy Wolff, The Rev. Dr. Louis H. Zbinden Jr. and Katherine “Kip” Zbinden, Nancy Loeffler, Ed Whitacre, Gen. Robert Herres, and Gov. Dolph Briscoe.

Mark your calendar – TLU President Ann M. Svennungsen will be inaugurated as the university’s 14th president in a ceremony scheduled for Friday afternoon, Feb. 1, 2008, in Jackson Auditorium.
In addition to the installation ceremony, President Svennungsen’s inauguration will include a special worship service at 10 a.m. that morning in the Chapel of the Abiding Presence. The Rev. Mark Hanson, presiding bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, will preach at the service. Other inauguration events being planned include a guest lecture, community service projects, and social events.
“A presidential inauguration is a festive and important time for a university community,” said Steve Anderson, senior vice president for university relations and chair of the inauguration planning committee. “It is a time to celebrate our heritage and envision our future as the new president outlines the goals and themes of her administration. We hope many alumni and friends will be able to participate in President Svennungsen’s inauguration.”
