Presidential Search Update – The search for TLU’s next president is proceeding well and on schedule. The Presidential Search Advisory Committee continues the process of assessing candidates, with the goal of identifying a small number of finalists who will be invited to campus for public interview sessions with faculty, staff, alumni and community members starting in late January or early February. The Search Advisory Committee hopes to present its recommendation to the Board of Regents in time for the Board to select the new president in late February or early March. Public updates on the presidential search process are posted at www.tlu.edu/president.
10th Annual MLK program – In celebration of the 10th anniversary of its program honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Texas Lutheran is presenting Spiritual Voices, a musical ensemble that appeared at the first TLU celebration. The program entitled “Remember! Celebrate! Act! – A Day On …Not a Day Off” will begin at 7 p.m., Sunday, Jan. 14, in TLU’s Jackson Auditorium. The program is free and open to the public.
Specializing in the performance of the Negro spiritual, Spiritual Voices presented its first highly acclaimed concerts on tour in North Carolina and Washington D.C. in 1993. Since that time, it has presented concerts throughout the United States, Europe and Germany to great critical acclaim.
TLU will continue its tradition of presenting TLU and other vocal performances and dramatic readings during the program. Among the other performers are Joy Jones, Stephanie Lee, Chawanna Bethany, Natasha Sobers, Alicia Davis, Mahalia Revetta, Laura Townsend, and The Rev. W. C. McIntyre. TLU students Danielle Sirles, Jennifer D. Sanders, and Veronica Ellick will present readings from “A Testament of Hope: The Essential Writings and Speeches of Martin Luther King Jr.”
Others on the program include Shaaron Melcher Conoly, TLU associate professor of music/voice and chair of the planning committee; Rev. Greg Ronning, campus pastor; Dr. Douglas Boyer, associate professor of music and director of the School of Music; Dr. Chris Bollinger, assistant professor, English and communications studies; and Amy Sivils, instructor, TLU School of Music.
Students named to Who’s Who from TLU this year are Adam Westerfield, Moulton; Amanda Casey, San Antonio; Amber Teinert, Round Rock; Andrew King, Holland, Ohio; Chawanna Bethany, Niceville, Fla.; Cheri Wagner, Shiner; Elizabeth Kuitu, Odessa; Heather Montgomery, San Antonio; Wil Bassett, College Station; Jayme Reiss, La Porte; Jennifer Ebrom, Karnes City; Jessica Holt, Katy; Jill Hokanson, Austin; and Julie Anna Herbrich, Houston.

These students were selected based on their academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success. They join an elite group of outstanding campus leaders from more than 2,000 institutions of higher learning in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and several foreign nations who will be included in the 2007 edition of Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. Outstanding students have been honored in the annual directory since it was first published in 1934.

Front Row Sold Out! – Front Row with Craig Biggio and Verne Lundquist, scheduled for Feb. 13 in Union Station at the Houston Astros' Minute Maid Park, is officially a sell-out! Thanks to all alumni and friends who have purchased tables or tickets. If you didn't get your order in on time, stay tuned for information about Front Row 2008. We hope to announce the date and next year's celebrity athlete early this fall. All proceeds from this annual event, which is sponsored this year by Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, benefit the TLU intercollegiate athletics program.
