TLU’s “Got Passion?” Project Profiles Faculty and Staff

September 10, 2012

Texas Lutheran University (TLU) proudly announces our “Got Passion?” project. The campaign profiles faculty and staff, looking at their passion outside the classroom. These stories share who each person is within the TLU community, as well as whom they are off campus. At TLU, we learn boldly and live to inspire and The “Got Passion?” project allows us to tell the stories of our staff and faculty.

First proposed by Judy Hoffmann, associate professor of geography, the “Got Passion?” project blossomed into a storytelling campaign. Complete with web site articles and posters stationed throughout campus, the project is in full effect at TLU. Hoffmann believes every person has a story to share and a desire to be heard.

“I wanted to engage everyone in telling their own story,” Hoffmann said. “We must live out our message beyond the classroom, beyond taking care of the grounds, beyond crunching budget numbers, beyond seeking new students, and beyond seeking new donors. Passion is a powerful fuel. I believe we should start telling our stories to one another and then seek them in a common grounding that allows all of us to see the passion in ourselves and others.”

From humanism and cooking to collecting art and Tanzanian orphans, the stories of TLU are diverse and yet connected in that they each display an individual’s fervor for life. Hoffmann’s idea has transformed into a campus-wide conversation among faculty, staff and students. No matter how grand or simple one’s passion might be, for Hoffmann, it matters.

“I believe that as we try to define who we are as people, we must say who we are,” she said. “I believe our passion is a big part of this. We are a powerful community of people. We don’t always speak boldly enough about who we are––here’s our chance.”
