The Council Of Independent Colleges (CIC) has recognized Texas Lutheran University in multiple areas as part of their 2018 national report, "Innovation and the Independent College: Examples from the Sector." TLU is featured as a leading example in three categories: New Academic Programs, New Student Populations, and Consortial Arrangements.

The New Academic Programs category highlights colleges that have developed new undergraduate programs that attract or retain different student populations, and respond to local, national, or even international changes and opportunities. The New Student Populations section recognizes schools that continue to increase or maintain enrollment while diversifying the student population. The Consortial Arrangements category acknowledges colleges that are working with other institutions of higher education, businesses, employers, and nonprofit organizations to engage in activities of mutual benefit.

Based off of information provided by member colleges and universities during the CIC’s signature event, Securing America’s Future, the report profiles standout programs and initiatives that help effectively prepare for the future and actively promote the value of a liberal arts education.

These findings represent major points of discussion held during the event and reference hundreds of examples of mission-driven innovation.

“Being noted for our work on numerous fronts—including our work with local secondary schools, our new graduate program in data analytics, and our partnership with the Alamo Colleges—demonstrates TLU’s important contributions to the independent higher education sector,” TLU Vice President for Academic Affairs Dr. Debbie Cottrell said. “TLU faculty who participated in these workshops brought back numerous ideas and insights that better position us to enhance our efforts and serve our students.”
