Texas Lutheran University’s Society of Physics Students (SPS) have been named a 2016-2017 Outstanding Chapter by the national organization. The SPS—a professional association explicitly designed for students—offers membership through college chapters and is open to anyone interested in physics and members are from a variety of majors.

After each academic year and a comprehensive review of information, photos, and supporting material presented in the annual Chapter Reports, the SPS determines which groups are given the honor.

Criteria for the Outstanding Chapter honor looks at involvement in local, zone and national SPS meetings and other professional meetings, participation in SPS programs, outreach efforts to the grades K-12 or the general public, participation in community service, contributions to student recruitment and retention, participation in social events, and interactions with the department's alumni.
