New Freshman Residence Hall Under Construction at TLU
August 23, 2011
Construction on TLU’s new freshman residence hall began a few weeks ago and was celebrated at an official groundbreaking ceremony with faculty, staff and students on Tuesday, August 23. The brief ceremony followed the conclusion of the university’s Opening Convocation, which marked the beginning of TLU’s 121st academic year.
The three-story, 48,000-square-foot structure is expected to be completed by the beginning of the 2012-2013 academic year. The second and third floors of the new freshman coed residence hall will include 160 beds in double rooms. The first floor will feature public space with classrooms, meeting rooms and open gathering spaces. The building is designed by Barnes Gromatzky Kosarek Architects of Austin, and Whiting-Turner is serving as general contractor. Project Control of San Antonio is serving as project manager.
“This is an exciting time for TLU as we are poised for growth and new opportunities and experiences for our students,” said Dr. Stuart Dorsey, TLU President. “The new freshman residence hall is the first step in the development of our campus master plan which will eventually include a new fine arts complex and athletics stadium.”
