Methodist Healthcare Ministries Awards TLU Nursing Additional $250,000 Grant
January 26, 2016
Methodist Healthcare Ministries of South Texas, Inc. (MHM) recently awarded Texas Lutheran University’s nursing program a second $250,000 grant to fund educational resources and scholarships for the university’s RN to BSN track. TLU’s new program is gaining momentum and attracting area RNs who are interested in advancing their careers by earning a bachelor of science in nursing. To date, TLU has received $500,000 from MHM to support the nursing program.
The grant allows TLU to continue offering specialized and geographic workforce education and training at the baccalaureate level, leading to better job placement, increased wages, and job retention in nursing. New areas supported by the grant’s continuation include additional, coaching and online resources. Pre-licensure students will now also be eligible to take advantage of the additional resources provided by the grant in their senior year.
“The funding from Methodist Healthcare Ministries is vital to developing a workforce that meets the demands of today’s healthcare job market,” TLU Director of Nursing Kathie Aduddell said. “TLU nursing is focused on our RN to BSN program that gives RNs better career opportunities after obtaining a baccalaureate nursing degree, and assisting pre-licensure BSN students as they prepare for entry into the workforce. This grant not only allows us to continue providing quality educational opportunities, it shows us that our program is being noticed and supported by leaders in the healthcare system of South Texas. We’re very thankful for their continued support.”
