Live to Inspire: Mollie Cullinane ‘97
November 6, 2013
For the past 12 years, Mollie Cullinane, a ’97 TLU alumna, has coupled her career as a lawyer with her passion for helping mission-driven programs and social entrepreneurs establish their own companies. The Austin-based Cullinane Law Group, started by Mollie and her husband Jeff, advises nonprofits and social enterprises on how to create business plans and assists them with establishing the business tools they need to sustain success.
Cullinane credits working with the Dr. Phil Foundation as her big break and has since worked with all types of organizations from public charities and schools, to churches and professional athletes. Her own success, she said, stems not only from a natural do-gooder attitude, but her experience at Texas Lutheran University.
"Attending TLU was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made," Cullinane said. "I got the individual guidance, collaboration, feedback, meaningful relationships and chance to go beyond basic learning. My professors allowed me to be dynamic. I grew up with family and church members who attended TLU. I saw the products of the university and they were leaders. I wanted to be a leader too."
Cullinane will teach the Introduction to Social Entrepreneurship course (SOEN 231) beginning spring 2014, bringing her professional experience and insight of working with social entrepreneurs to TLU students.
"I want students to leave my class knowing how to take a cause, create a business plan and use the steps they’ve learned to help a nonprofit or social enterprise," said Cullinane. "We have many guest speakers including local social entrepreneurs lined up, allowing students to learn about and study their success. Internship opportunities in various areas like advocacy, sports and recreation, religion, theater and education will also be available for students so they get the full benefits of working with professionals in this rapidly growing field."
