In Memoriam – Sara Strey TLU junior Sara Michelle Strey, age 21, died in a tragic accident Friday night, May 8, 2009.
She is survived by her mother Donna Solarczyk and husband David; father Shawn Strey; brothers Brandon and Kollin Strey; sister Kelsey Strey; and many other friends and family members.
Visitation will take place Tuesday, May 12, noon-5 p.m. at Finch Funeral Chapel in LaVernia. A Rosary will be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday at Annunciation BVM Catholic Church in St. Hedwig. Mass will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday, May 13 at Annunciation BVM Cathlic Church with Father Bill Zandora officiating. Interment will follow at Christ Lutheran Church Cemetery of Elm Creek.
President Ann Svennungsen said, "We extend our heartfelt sympathy and prayers to Sara’s family and friends. Sara was a beloved member of the TLU community - a business major, an employee at the Alumni Student Center, and a former member of the women's soccer team. Her loss will be felt deeply by all of us here, and we pray that God’s peace and presence will comfort all who grieve her untimely death."

In Memoriam – Elton Bohmann Elton Bohmann, professor emeritus of business administration, passed away in Seguin, Thursday, May 7, 2009, at age 94.
Dr. Bohmann taught accounting at Texas Lutheran for 30 years until his retirement in 1987, mentoring more than 1,100 business and accounting students.
"Texas Lutheran University is forever grateful for the life of Elton Bohmann and his 30 years of dedicated service to this school,” said TLU President Ann Svennungsen. “He was an excellent professor who took a personal interest in each of his students. Serving as a remarkable mentor, he befriended his students even beyond graduation -- as they went on to establish fine careers in accounting and business. He was an extraordinary person and a beloved colleague. And, he will be deeply missed.”
Dr. Bohmann was given the Alumni Academic Chair Award numerous times, and many of his former students established and continue to support the Elton Bohmann Professorship in Accounting and the Elton Bohmann Scholarship at TLU. Former students also contributed funds to name the Elton Bohmann Student Study Area in Tschoepe Hall in his honor, and the Leta Pearl Bohmann Faculty Office in Tschoepe Hall in his late wife’s memory. In May 2001, TLU presented him an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Leta, and son, John. Survivors include his son, Robert Bohmann, and his daughter, Sandra Debner.
Dr. Bohmann earned a bachelor's degree from Sam Houston State University and a master's degree from Texas A&M University in Kingsville. He began his career as a public school teacher and coach, serving as principal and tennis coach at Freer High School for 10 years. He joined the Texas Lutheran faculty in 1957.
He was a member of Emanuel's Lutheran Church in Seguin, the San Antonio Chapter of the Texas CPAs, the Texas Society of CPAs, the American Institute of CPAs, and the American Accounting Association.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, May 12, at 11 a.m. at Jackson Auditorium on the TLU campus. A reception will be held immediately following the service in Hein Dining Hall on campus. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. Monday, May 11, at Tres Hewell Mortuary, 165 Tor Dr. in Seguin. The family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Texas Lutheran University, Emanuel’s Lutheran Church in Seguin, St. John’s Lutheran Church in Denhawken, and Guadalupe Regional Hospice Services.
