Committed to improving the quality of health and healthcare for residents in their service area, the Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio (BHFSA) awarded Texas Lutheran University (TLU) a $20,000 grant to support nursing scholarships.

“Support from organizations like Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio allow us to continue offering quality educational experiences to our students while preparing them for a career in healthcare,” TLU Director of Nursing Kathie Aduddell said. “We are grateful to be recognized by the foundation and their support reinforces that our program continues to be noticed by leaders within the healthcare system of South Texas.”

Recently, TLU’s first graduating class of nursing students scored a 100 percent pass rate on the NCLEX-RN licensing exam. All students passed on their first attempt, securing a 100 percent pass rate for the entire Bachelor of Science in Nursing program. According to The Texas Board of Nursing, the 2015 NCLEX-RN examination pass rate for Texas programs was 85.22 percent—one percent above the national average of 84.18 percent.

BHFSA President and CEO Cody Knowlton said his organization’s mission aligns with the goals of TLU’s nursing program.

“Baptist Health Foundation of San Antonio is committed to improving the health of our community by fostering and funding clinical, educational, spiritual and scientific initiatives,” Knowlton said. “As a conduit of Christ’s love and ministry, we are honored to partner with TLU in providing scholarships for students pursuing a degree in nursing.”
