Annual TLU Youth Choir Festival features Dr. Z. Randall Stroope

Texas Lutheran University will host the fourth annual Youth Choir Festival with clinician internationally recognized choral conductor and composer Dr. Z. Randall Stroope on Saturday, January 29 from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Jackson Auditorium. 

Fourth through 12th grade treble singers and their choral directors are invited to the day-long festival. One hundred singers will join the TLU Women’s Choir and the TLU/MTS Community Youth Choir as Dr. Stroope directs four of his own compositions—“Lux Aeterna,” Inscription of Hope,” “Like a Feathered Dove,” and “Psalm 23.” TLU/MTS CMA Director Laurie Jenschke will direct “The Rhythm of Life” from the musical “Sweet Charity.” 

Registration is still open for choir directors who will have an opportunity to meet with Dr. Stroope in an open forum about his philosophy of choral music and choral direction. Interested directors may contact Laurie Jenschke at ljenschke@tlu.edu. 

Friends, family, and the community are invited to attend the finale concert at 4 p.m. in Jackson Auditorium. Admission is free. 

Dr. Stroope is a world-renowned conductor and composer with recent conducting engagements at American School in Singapore, Canterbury Cathedral in England, Salzburger Dom in Austria, Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, D.C., Vancouver Symphony in British Columbia, and the Vatican. He also is Artistic Director for summer international choral festivals in Berlin, Germany and Rome, Italy. Stroope has toured 15 countries with ensembles under his direction, and conducted 35 all-state choirs in the U.S. 

At Oklahoma State University, Dr. Stroope is the Director of Choral and Vocal Studies where he conducts the Concert Chorale and Chamber Choir, oversees recruitment activities, and coordinates the undergraduate and graduate conducting program. Dr. Stroope has 95 published works and over 200,000 copies of his compositions sold each year, which are performed by esteemed ensembles throughout the world.
