Members of Texas Lutheran University’s chapter of the Alpha Chi National College Honor Society had a successful run at this year’s national convention in Nashville, Tenn. Several students received honors and the group was named an Alpha Chi Star Chapter.
In this academic competition, TLU students competed within the disciplines of British literature, business administration, chemistry, communication, computer science, creative writing, mathematics, religion and world literature. Faculty members in each discipline evaluated presentations in each area.
Wako Bungula was granted a $2,500 Benedict Fellowship for his paper, “Volume of Solids of Revolution: Revolving About a Curve.” Dielli Hoxha was the second alternate for a similar award regarding the Benedict Fellowship for his paper, "A Parallel Implementation of the Pre-flow Push Algorithm in STAPL." Kenna Neitch won the Bill Short Prize for the best paper and presentation in world literature with her paper, "The Prince & the Satire: Machiavelli in Context," while Erblin Ribari won the Gayle Webb White Prize for the best paper and presentation in business administration with his paper, "Try giving away $20 for $10--understanding value investing." Amanda Thompson, president of the TLU chapter, was presented Alpha Chi Chapter Award for Region I with her paper, "'All Animals Are Equal?: Shifting Power Structures in George Orwell's Animal Farm."
Alpha Chi faculty sponsor since 1976 and TLU Professor of Theology, Dr. Norm Beck, said all of the students represented TLU with excellence in tough national academic competition and gained valuable professional experience.
“Our students have always been successful at this event in the 37 years I’ve been sponsor, especially during these last few years,” Beck said. “When our students place well in intercollegiate sports competition, it is good for them, for TLU, and for all of us and we rejoice together. Similarly, when our students place well in intercollegiate academic competition, it is good for them, for TLU, and for all of us and we rejoice together.”
