Texas Lutheran University has been designated as an institutional member of Service members Opportunity Colleges (SOC), a group of over 1,000 colleges and universities providing voluntary postsecondary education to members of the military throughout the world. As a SOC member, Texas Lutheran University recognizes the unique nature of the military lifestyle and has committed itself to easing the transfer of relevant course credits, providing flexible academic residency requirements, and crediting learning from appropriate military training. SOC has been developed jointly by educational representatives of each of the Armed Services, the Office of the Secretary of Defense and a consortium of 13 leading national higher education associations.
When making an evaluation of credentials, Texas Lutheran University considers the work from other colleges and universities, the Defense Activity for Non-traditional Educational Support, and service school experiences.
Military personnel are invited to participate in the academic program on the main campus under a plan that provides an opportunity for military persons to complete the requirements for a degree as a full-time student. The individual may select from a list of 27 major study areas. A program may be planned to extend from 4 to 12 months.
|Yellow Ribbon Program|
The Yellow Ribbon GI Education Enhancement Program (Yellow Ribbon Program) is a provision of the Post-9/11 Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2008. This program allows institutions of higher learning (degree granting institutions) in the United States to voluntarily enter into an agreement with VA to fund tuition expenses that exceed the highest public in-state undergraduate tuition rate. The institution can contribute up to 50% of those expenses and VA will match the same amount as the institution.

|Veterans Education Benefits|
Students who plan to attend Texas Lutheran University while receiving any type of Veterans Education Benefits should follow the steps outlined below:
- Once you have applied for admission to Texas Lutheran University, you should then file the appropriate Application for Education Benefits Form along with a copy of your DD Form 214 to the VA Certifying Official in the TLU Registrar's Office.
- In addition to submitting your Application for Veterans Benefits Form, you will also need to submit a Certification Form to your campus VA Certifying Official every semester upon registration so that your courses can be certified to Veterans Affairs Western Regional Office.

Veterans may apply for financial assistance through the TLU Financial Aid Office in addition to receiving Veterans Education Benefits.
Students must maintain satisfactory academic progress each semester in order to remain eligible for payments. The Veterans Administration will not pay for:
- Courses you audit.
- Courses for which you receive a W grade.
- Courses you repeat if you have already received a passing grade (i.e., A, B, C, or D) in that course. You may repeat a course previously failed.
- Courses that are not a part of your degree requirements.
Appeals can be made if documentation can support the occurrence of special circumstances.
|Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC)|
Through a partnership agreement with Texas State University (San Marcos), Texas Lutheran students may cross-enroll at Texas State in either the Army ROTC or the Air Force ROTC. The purpose of the ROTC program is to commission qualified students who wish to serve in the United States military.
The ROTC courses offered by the Military Science Department (Army) or the Aerospace Studies Department (Air Force) at Texas State will be considered Texas Lutheran University courses and credit for such courses will appear on the student’s TLU transcript. The number of credit hours for each course will be equivalent to the credit hours offered by Texas State University. Each TLU student enrolled in the ROTC Program at Texas State must meet eligibility requirements for admission to this program as stipulated in current Department of the Army and Air Force regulations.
ROTC students may compete for a variety of scholarships in both ROTC programs. Some scholarships provide full tuition, laboratory and incidental fees, and an allowance for books, plus a monthly stipend.
