NoodleTools Guidesheet for FACULTY

  1. Go to library home page at http://www.tlu.edu/library
  2. Click the "Search" link
  3. On the next screen, click either "Search by Database" or "Search by Title."
  4. On the next screen, click "NoodleBib (citation creator)" 
  5. To create your personal ID and password, click "Choose a Personal ID." 
  6. Click on the "teacher or librarian" button.
     
  7. Type in the personal ID you would like to have and then click “Check availability,” for example:
  8. When you type in a name that is available, you will get a confirmation message:
  9. The next time you go to NoodleTools, you will type in your Personal ID and password.
  10. To set up a class name so your students can share their citations with you, click "Sharing Setup" (under “Lists Shared with Me”).
  11. In the Update box, type the name students use when addressing you in class. Click UPDATE.
  12. Click "Create a New Class Name."
  13. If you want another person (such as a librarian) to be able to view your students’ work, you must type in the Personal ID that person created in NoodleTools.  For example, scarroll@tlu.edu.
  14. You may add other class names for each of your classes that will be using NoodleTools.
  15. When finished, click "My Lists."

To begin adding citations
  1. Logon with your Personal ID and Password.
  2. To begin adding citations, click "Create a New List." 
  3. Click the button for either Modern Language Association or American Psychological Association, type a description of the list, and then click “Create List.”
  4. From this point forward, you will be creating citations as you conduct your research.  You will be keeping this NoodleTools window open while at the same time, in a separate browser window, consulting the source containing your citation information.  This will allow you to follow the prompts in NoodleTools while you evaluate your source document; and then “copy” (Ctrl-C) and “paste” (Ctrl-V) the information called for in NoodleTools.
  5. Print your source document (journal article, bibliographic citation, etc.) out at this time.

Once you have set up NoodleTools with a Class Name
  1. Have your students create their own Personal ID and Password in NoodleTools, being sure to click the “I am a student” button.
  2. Once they are logged in with the ID and Password they just created, they must first create a New List and it will then appear on their list like this:
  3. They must checkmark the list containing the work they want to share with you, and then, click SHARE
  4. A window appears, like this:
  5. They should type in their real name and the Class Name that YOU (the faculty member) created, e.g., “GEC 134”:
  6. When they have typed in their name and Class Name, click SHARE MY LISTS:
  7. The next time the faculty member logs on, the faculty member will see a screen containing the lists the faculty member has created PLUS a section named, “Lists Shared With Me”:
  8. In the example above, to see the students’ work, the faculty member would click on the Class Name link, “Carroll-Ricks GEC 134-06”:
  9. And a list of all students’ lists who shared their lists would appear, e.g.,
  10. To see the work of the student, click on the link and the student-created citations appear in the following form:
  11. Click “View” to see what the student chose when he/she created the citation within NoodleTools. Click “Comment” to write notes that the student will be able to view, enabling the student to correct his/her citation.
