Chapter 2: Locating and Retrieving Information
7. Searching by Keyword, Part One
There are two primary methods for searching by topic: word searching and subject searching. Since there are advantages and disadvantages to each method, sometimes it is useful to try both.
Word searching allows you to search for individual words, or phrases, in the title, subject, and other fields in the record. | A word is a single word. For example: school, new, foreign | A phrase is a combination of two or more words that has a specific meaning. For example: high school, New York, foreign relations |
If you did a word search using the phrase "foreign relations" , you would find items located in the TITLE field.
