Ohlenbusch-Rinn Tennis Project
Thanks to the generosity of Herman Ohlenbusch ’53 and the Marvin Rinn ’53 family, TLU Tennis has enhanced their current facilities and renamed them the Ohlenbusch-Rinn Tennis Center. With gifts of $100,000 each, the renovations make the courts one of the top NCAA Division III facilities in Texas.
Immediate upgrades included an eight-court LED electronic scoreboard, court resurfacing, lights on the north bank of courts, curb/barrier on courts one and five, and a new windscreen with a logo on the south bank of courts.
Now, TLU alumni and friends can help to raise another $100,000 for these additional upgrades: clubhouse and storage facility, new spectator seating, on-court and off-court shade system, new fencing and netting, training and facility maintenance equipment, new racquet stringing machine, updated on-court logos, and a speaker system.
“We are so very grateful to Mr. Ohlenbusch and the Rinn family for their gifts and leadership in this project,” TLU Head Tennis Coach Michael Hunt said. “When they were students, Herman and Marvin approached the president of TLC to request that tennis be reinstated as a varsity sport. Almost 70 years later, Mr. Ohlenbusch and Mr. Rinn’s family are teaming up to help make TLU Tennis a competitive force within the SCAC and NCAA Division III tennis.”
Coach Hunt also says recruiting is the most important aspect of building a championship program, and facilities are among the most important aspects of recruiting.
“We’ve been at a facility disadvantage for a number of years now with our SCAC opponents,” he said. “But with these facility enhancements, we believe that we will be able to attract more tennis recruits. It’s not overstating it to say that the Ohlenbusch-Rinn gifts are ‘program-changing’ for TLU Tennis. We will always be indebted to these two families.”
While the gifts from Mr. Ohlenbusch and the Rinn family have made a monumental impact on TLU Tennis facilities, additional funding is needed to fully complete all renovations. Please consider supporting TLU Tennis and the student-athletes who will greatly benefit from your generosity.
