Shuler Court Project
Former TLU basketball coach, Jim Shuler, made an impact on many lives while he served TLU for nearly 20 years. He was not only a great coach but also a man who instilled values and ethics in many former students.
TLU is pleased to announce a fundraising project to renovate Memorial Gymnasium and to name the basketball court after former coach Jim Shuler. A goal of $500,000, established by alumni Al Silva '78, Dwain Thomas ’78, Harry Miller ’75, and Mike Beucler ’74, is within reach. After major commitments from these four individuals and early gifts from other alumni and friends, more than $355,000 in gifts and pledges have already been received.
Your gift will not only honor Coach Shuler, it will provide welcome and timely resources for current and future TLU students. All funds will be used exclusively for the court costs and for gym and locker room upgrades.
These upgrades are much needed for a program on the rise. In the last two seasons, former coach Jimmy Smith took the men’s team from last to first in the conference and qualified for the NCAA tournament for consecutive years. In his inaugural year, Head Coach Mike Wacker aims to build on the momentum of the program and continue the successful tradition of our men’s basketball team.
With the amazing generosity shown for such a great man, there will be an official dedication ceremony of the basketball court in honor of Coach Shuler on Saturday, January 28, at 5:30 p.m. with a reception to follow. Please join us in celebrating this wonderful occasion.
All gifts will be recognized in the TLU donor honor roll and all commitments of $5,000 or more (which can be pledged over a 3-5 year period) will be displayed on a plaque in Memorial Gym. If you have any questions, please call Rick Roberts at 210-372-8034 or email at email@example.com.
Thank you to all who have supported this project!
