TLU alumni and students define our university and what it means to Learn Boldly and Live to Inspire. Check out their stories.
TLU has a great story to tell and what better way to tell it than through the experiences of our students and alumni? Meet Austin Manning, a 2011 graduate with a bachelor’s in dramatic media and a master’s in fine arts from the University of Virginia. Austin currently works at the ZACH Theatre in Austin, Texas, and he’s grateful to his TLU professors for giving him a hands-on learning experience.
Who knew an internship with the Internal Revenue Service would lead to a career as a special agent? Meet alumnus Demetrius Hardeman ‘05. He does criminal investigations for the IRS. “I had two paid internships before graduation. TLU provided the foundation for that to happen.”
When we asked students and alumni, “Why TLU?” we wanted everyone to hear their answers. For Tara Armstrong, a junior majoring in athletic training and also a member of the women’s soccer team, TLU opened her horizons and has given her an opportunity to meet different people in a variety of classes from art appreciation to American politics. “It’s an education you would not get anywhere else. Putting in the effort, TLU will give it back to you.”
Sophomore Hannah Schmidt studies business and junior Tara Armstrong majors in athletic training but both women credit “endless opportunities” and the ability to find friends across campus as a driving force behind their success at TLU.
Erick Gutierrez was more of an introvert in high school, but at TLU, his communication and social skills have greatly improved because of his campus involvement. As a senior nursing major, he plans to continue to hone his skills to “help me become that better nurse.”
