Spring Choir Tour 2018
April 5 2018 - April 10 2018 7:30pm - 9:00pm
“My Song In The Night”
Under the direction of Dr. Douglas R. Boyer, director of the TLU School of Music and Choral Activities, the TLU Choirs will present a varied program featuring premiering works, world music, and both sacred and secular pieces on their spring 2018 tour. The American Folk-hymn, “My Song in the Night,” provides inspiration and the metaphor of song is used beautifully in this hymn to capture the many deep emotions we experience as we journey through life. Each portion of the program explores a different aspect of these experiences and emotions.
The program includes the world premieres of two new works for choir and piano four hands by American composer Alice Parker. Parker made her name as the primary arranger for the Robert Shaw Chorale for some 20 years. She continues to compose and teach, and she's a much beloved figure in the choral music world. Her more than 500 compositions and arrangements are sung all over the world.
Both of these newly composed works carry the following dedication line:
"Commissioned in memory of Caroline Weston and in honor of the Weston family for their generous support of the arts at Texas Lutheran University."
The choir will premiere “Let Your Spirit Blow As Wind” on a text by Thomas Troeger and the women’s choir will premiere “God of Sand And God of Sea” on a text by John Thornburg.
All performances are free and open to the public. No tickets required.
