Spring Baccalaureate & Commencement 2016

Texas Lutheran University celebrates Commencement at the end of the Fall and Spring semesters for those students who have completed all requirements for graduation. A Baccalaureate Service is held the morning of Commencement where graduates and their parents are invited to join the TLU community in a final service led by the campus pastor before receiving diplomas.

Commencement Tickets

The stage will be set up directly in front of the Chapel, with the lawn from the Chapel to the Victory Bell as the seating area. There will be plenty of seating for family, friends and invited guests. 

Tickets will not be used, except in the event of rain. Each graduate will be given 6 “rain tickets,” which will be used if the ceremony is moved to Memorial Gymnasium due to rain. Graduates should have picked up their tickets at the TLU Bookstore prior to Commencement. We ask that ticket holders be seated by 6:50 p.m. after which time seating will be opened up to non-ticket holders until capacity is reached. The ceremony will be live streamed online. In the event of rain, a large screen will be set up in the Alumni Student Center for overflow attendees to view the ceremony.

Commencement Speaker: Robert Haynes

Robert G. Haynes has served as the CEO of Guadalupe Regional Medical Center in Seguin since 2003 and was hired in 1996 as the associate administrator. Prior to that, he was the administrator at Seton Edgar B. Davis Hospital in Luling, Texas. He has more than 40 years of experience in the healthcare industry, and began his healthcare journey providing direct care for patients. Licensed in 1981 by the California College of Respiratory Therapy, he became an EMT and paramedic and managed the EMS Department for the City of Luling. Haynes established the Cardiopulmonary Department at Seton where he served as its director before becoming director of outpatient services and eventually administrator.

Haynes has been a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives since 2007 and an active member of the Texas Hospital Association. He has served on the HealthShare Board since 2012 and was appointed to the Board for Council on Policy Development in 2013. He is former chair of the Texas Hospital Association Editorial Board and has served on the Greater San Antonio Hospital Counsel. He has also served as a board member for the Greater Seguin Chamber of Commerce and is a former board chairman. Haynes has been board chairman for the Seguin Economic Development Corporation since 2012 and also serves on the Central Texas Technology Center Board. He has a bachelor’s degree in health professions from Texas State University. In 2005, Haynes was awarded the Allen G. Herkimer, Jr. Award for Outstanding Alumni in the Department of Health Administration.

Grad Gear Up

Tuesday, April 19 from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the ASC Lounge

Graduates can use this opportunity to take care of all things pertaining to graduation at one location. Verify the reading of their name at the ceremony and on their diploma, wrap up loose ends with the business and financial aid offices, pick up rain tickets, and take care of any other important graduation business. This event is a part of the TLU Senior Salute Week.
