We are pleased to welcome you to TLU’s 2008 Advanced Placement Summer Institute (APSI). The staff at the Center for Professional Development and this year’s APSI consultants, who are all approved by The College Board, hope that this week will be an enjoyable and beneficial experience and that you will leave here with renewed enthusiasm and equipped with new strategies and resources to incorporate into your classrooms.
Please review the information below and let the APSI staff know if you have any questions or if we can do anything to make your visit at Texas Lutheran University a pleasant experience.
Name Tags - Please wear your name tag to all functions to identify you as an APSI participant and allow you access to the facilities on campus.
Parking - APSI participants may park in the TLU parking lot adjacent to Beck Hall. Please place your parking pass (in your folder) on the windshield of your car before lunch on Monday morning.
Meeting Times - 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. On Friday classes end at noon, with the award of certificates.
Breaks and Lunches - Breaks and lunches are included with the workshop, and tickets for lunches can be found in your name badge pocket. To reduce the wait time at lunches, please follow the schedule for when your group should go to lunch. Your consultant will determine when it is convenient for you to take your breaks within the time frames indicated on your agenda. Please limit your break time to 15 minutes except for the 30-minute ice cream social on Wednesday afternoon. We have provided TLU’s Sodexho food services and our break caterer with the special dietary needs and requests of our consultants and participants. Should the breaks and meals not meet your dietary restrictions, please let the APSI staff know. NOTE: No lunch will be served on Friday, as the APSI concludes at noon.
Smoking on Campus - Texas Lutheran University is a smoke-free campus. Absolutely no smoking is allowed in the buildings on campus. Smoking is allowed only in designated outdoor areas. Violators will be asked to leave without a refund.
Telephones - Pay phones are located in the passageway at the Alumni Student Center. Every building has a campus phone that you can use to call our office (8047), campus police (8199), or the operator (0) for other on-campus phone numbers.
For Information or Assistance - If you need assistance in any way, please come by the Center for Professional Development in Room 125 of Tschoepe Hall or use the campus phones located in each building to call 8047.

If your family members need you, they should tell the operator that you are with the Advanced Placement Summer Institute. Our office extension is 8047.
Workshop Facilities - Please keep the room neat and orderly and put all trash in the containers provided.
Non-workshop Activities - Please see the information about restaurants and local attractions and events in your folder. You may use the TLU Grossman Fitness Center if you have had your physician complete and sign the Physical Activity Clearance Form. You may use the TLU Mabee Pool (without the Physical Activity Clearance Form). The schedule for these facilities during the week of your APSI is in your folder.
Evaluations - Please complete the APSI evaluations for the College Board on Friday morning. They will be picked up when the certificates are brought to your room.
Participant Certificates - You must attend all sessions to receive an APSI Continuing Education Unit (CEU) Certificate. Certificates will be brought to your classroom shortly before noon on Friday and exchanged for the completed APSI College Board-required evaluation forms.
