| THE FOCUS will be to assist AP teachers in building the foundations for success in teaching AP Chemistry. Emphasis will be placed on the rigor of the material that students need to be successful on the AP Chemistry exam. Time will be allowed for best practices and for sharing ideas as a group. Laboratory investigations will be incorporated with the discussion of the theory. |
| TOPICS INCLUDE equilibrium, thermodynamics, kinetics (non-calculator and calculator approaches), electrochemistry, multiple choice strategies, acid-base chemistry, reaction predictions (new format will be discussed), atomic structure and periodicity. Laboratory topics include kinetics, equilibrium (determination of pKa), several different methods for determination of molar masses, and titrations. If time allows, other topics will be determined by the group. |

The consultant will guide the participants through explication of texts and suggest strategies for working with students in analyzing literature on the level required to pass the AP Literature/Composition exam. |
TOPICS INCLUDE Poetry: how to read it confidently and [omit] how to teach it effectively; close reading strategies; rhetoric and syntax; the poetry of John Donne and Emily Dickinson; American Poet Laureates: Gwendolyn Brooks, Richard Wilbur, Billy Collins, Donald Hall, and Ted Kooser as models for teaching voice and tone; choosing major works; composition: poetry analysis, prose analysis, and literary analysis; comparison and contrast; weaknesses common to student writers; research projects; Garrison Keillor’s Writers’ Almanac as a valuable resource; philosophical questions about the role of AP English in a school; organizational and instructional strategies; and special problems in the AP classroom. |

| TOPICS INCLUDE the changes in international framework, their causes and consequences, as well as comparisons among major societies. The course emphasizes relevant factual knowledge used in conjunction with leading interpretive issues, types of historical evidence, and appropriate analytical skills. Focused primarily on the past 1,500 years of the global experience, the course builds on an understanding of cultural, institutional, and technological precedents that, along with geography, set the human stage prior to 1000 CE. Presentation time is devoted to 50% pedagogy and 50% content because many teachers desire both the pedagogy of setting up and managing an AP course as well content specific to the new historiography of world history. |

It can be a book report that you use in class, a roe playing exercise, a research project, etc. The best lesson should contain the following information: When to teach It How to organize students and teach the lesson How long does it take to teach What materials/handouts are needed How to access/grade the work Include all the necessary handouts for this lesson as well as the pedagogical information. Your presentation should last around 5-10 minutes. |
