TLU offers Foundations of Literacy
TLU will offer current teachers and prospective teachers already enrolled in an alternative teacher certification program an opportunity to take
RED 332, Foundations of Literacy, this spring on five consecutive Saturdays (April 19 - May 17). This three-semester hour course will provide the foundation teachers need to understand the development and acquisition of literacy, including language acquisition. They will learn about theories and models of reading and writing; phonological and phonemic awareness; and approaches to language arts instruction for learners in early childhood education through grade 4. This course is ideal for teachers certified in another area who wish to pursue additional certification as an EC-4 generalist. Some alternative certification programs do not include coursework in literacy acquisition, so students enrolled in those programs will benefit from this course in preparation for the TExES content area exam. The cost of the course is $900 payable at the time of enrollment. For additional information, call 830-372-8047 or e-mail cpd@tlu.edu.
