Welcome to Texas Lutheran University!
Our website is designed to be informative and welcoming—just like TLU. We aim to present TLU authentically, so that visitors will quickly learn what we are, and what we are not. Prospective students, especially, can use this website to learn quickly if TLU is worthy of a more careful look.
What is special about TLU? As an experienced professor, dean and president, I believe that TLU balances preserving the best features of a traditional small college education, with growth and change to better serve today’s students. Our primary strength continues to be faculty and staff committed to students’ success. Alumni and employer surveys consistently show that working closely with a faculty member is the most important way that college contributes to quality of life and job satisfaction. This is what we do best at TLU—ensuring students graduate with the skills to attain productive careers and rewarding lives.
While the mission never changes, we are continuously striving to improve the TLU experience. Investments such as Centennial Hall, our new freshmen residence hall, and the new athletic complex have transformed the campus. Students’ academic choices are growing through new majors in nursing, biochemistry and an innovative program in social entrepreneurship. We also are adding support for internships and study abroad—two of the most valuable college experiences.
Today’s students are increasingly seeking opportunities for civic engagement and volunteerism. This past year, TLU students logged more than 27,000 hours of community service. Since 2014, four Bulldogs have also received the prestigious, nationally recognized, Newman Civic Fellowship honor by Campus Compact.
Texas Lutheran has earned numerous other external recognitions, consistently ranking high in "U.S. News and World Report" and "Princeton Review." I am most proud, however, that TLU is one a select group of universities to be named to the Honor Roll of “Great Colleges to Work For,” by "The Chronicle of Higher Education." Our faculty and staff enjoy their work and bring a positive attitude to their jobs. A college that is a great place to work is a great environment for students.
All of us at Texas Lutheran University are proud of our campus and we invite you to discover why. Enjoy!
