BROWNWOOD, Texas – The Texas Lutheran women’s volleyball team moved its American Southwest Conference West Division record to 5-0 with a three-game road win over Howard Payne on Tuesday evening.
In Brownwood, Texas, the Bulldogs defeated Howard Payne 25-20, 25-22, 25-20. TLU now holds an overall record of 8-2 with an ASC West mark of 5-0.
HPU dropped to 5-9 overall and to 3-3 in the ASC West.
TLU junior outside hitter Jessica Stetler (San Antonio/Churchill) led TLU with 16 kills. Stetler, an Honorable Mention All-American in 2008, made just one error in 49 attempts and posted an attack percentage of .306. Stetler added seven digs, three assists, and an ace.
Junior outside hitter Sarah Black (Needville/Needville) added 11 kills and six digs, and senior middle blocker Jamie Jahns (Spring/Klein Collins) produced seven kills and two blocks.
Senior setter Amanda Curry (Lago Vista/Lago Vista/Hardin-Simmons) had 17 assists, two kills, and two digs. Freshman setter Courtney Johnson (Cedar Park/Cedar Park) added 11 assists and four digs.
The Bulldogs hit .210 as a team and held HPU to .176. Tamika Heline led the Yellow Jackets with 11 kills. Kristin Hammond posted 16 digs, and setter Amy Cardwell and Amber Cantu-Curry combined for 28 assists.
TLU continues conference play this Friday and Saturday with three cross-division matches at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas. TLU faces ETBU at 4:30 p.m. Friday and plays Mary Hardin-Baylor (9:30 a.m.) and Mississippi College (2:30 p.m.) on Saturday.
