Volleyball moves to 2-0 with win over McMurry

SEGUIN, Texas – The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs moved to 2-0 in the American Southwest Conference West Division with a 25-16, 30-28, 25-23 win over McMurry University.

Friday evening at TLU’s Tostengard Activity Center, the Bulldogs came from behind in games two and three to clinch the conference win.

The Bulldogs fought off four game points in game two before prevailing 30-28.

In game three, TLU trailed 23-20 before scoring the final five points of the match. Sarah Black (Needville/Needville) and Rebecca Valdez (McAllen/McAllen) collected consecutive kills for TLU to close out the match.

The Bulldogs improved to 5-2 overall and to 2-0 in the ASC West.

McMurry dropped to 1-4 overall and to 0-2 in the ASC West.

TLU received 13 kills from Jamie Jahns (Spring/Klein Collins), 12 from Jessica Stetler (San Antonio/Churchill), and 10 from Sarah Black (Needville/Needville).

Stetler led the Bulldogs with 19 digs. Jahns had a team-best three aces. Black and Jahns tied for the team lead in blocks. Each player had two block assists.

Senior setter Amanda Curry (Lago Vista/Lago Vista/Hardin-Simmons) recorded 39 assists and six digs.

Chrissy Johnson (Cedar Park/Cedar Park) and Blair O’Brien (Austin/Manor) collected 15 and 10 digs, respectively.

McMurry received eight kills from M.J. Vickers and 23 digs from Sarah Anding.

As a team, McMurry registered a hitting percentage of .075. TLU’s hitting percentage was .159 for the match.

McMurry posted a 9-3 lead in blocks. McMurry middle blocker Terah Brown had two solo blocks and three block assists.

The Bulldogs host Sul Ross State at 2 p.m. Saturday in TLU’s Tostengard Activity Center.
