TLU Volleyball goes 3-1 at Pacific Coast Classic

CLAREMONT, Calif. – The Texas Lutheran women’s volleyball team pushed 2008 NCAA Division III runner-up La Verne, the current No.-3 ranked team in DIII, to five games Saturday at the Pacific Coast Classic.

La Verne rallied from two games down to defeat TLU 23-25, 20-25, 25-18, 25-14, 15-13.

Senior middle blocker Jamie Jahns led TLU with 13 kills in the loss. Junior outside hitter Sarah Black and freshman outside hitter Jordan Record added 12 and 11 kills, respectively.

Amanda Curry delivered 49 assists against La Verne, and Eden Denney added two block solos and one block assist.

TLU dropped to 3-1 overall with the non-conference loss.

The Bulldogs won three out of four matches at the Pacific Coast Classic, held Friday and Saturday. The tournament was hosted by Pomona-Pitzer Colleges.

TLU opened play Saturday with a win over Pomona-Pitzer. The Bulldogs prevailed 21-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-22.

Against Pomona-Pitzer, Jahns collected 17 kills and five blocks (one block solo, four block assists). Black added 10 kills.

Curry totaled 52 assists, and Brooke Basey led the team with three aces. Denney produced a block solo and three block assists.

TLU returns home to Seguin for Wednesday’s home match with 2008 DIII regional finalist Southwestern University. Match time at TLU’s Tostengard Activity Center is set for 7 p.m.
