SEGUIN, Texas – The Southwestern Pirates gave the Texas Lutheran men’s soccer team a 4-0 defeat in each team’s soccer season-opener Tuesday at TLU’s Gustafson Field.
Southwestern (1-0) scored three times in the first half and added another goal in the 83rd minute.
TLU (0-1) had several opportunities on corner kicks but could not convert. The Bulldogs had 11 corner kicks to Southwestern’s one in the match.
Nathan Shaw Meadow put the Pirates ahead in the 10th minute with a score off an assist from Alex Keller.
Josh Spencer made it 2-0 in the 25th minute on an unassisted goal, and David Lozano put Southwestern up 3-0 in the 40th minute off a pass from Fernando Leon.
Keller notched his second assist of the day with an assist on the final Southwestern goal, coming off a shot by Checo Carreon.
Southwestern out-shot TLU 13-10 and led in shots on goal 10-5.
Nick Pierce had five saves for the Pirates, and Trey Tesno made six saves for the Bulldogs.
TLU’s next contest comes Friday against nationally-ranked Trinity in a 3 p.m. non-conference match at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas.
