SAN ANTONIO, Texas – The Trinity Tigers jumped out to an 9-1 lead in the first four innings and rolled to an 14-6 victory over Texas Lutheran, Tuesday evening at Trinity’s E.M. Stevens Field.
In the non-conference battle between the two area NCAA Division III baseball rivals, the Tigers tallied 10 hits and sent 26 batters to the plate in their first four offensive frames.
Trinity improved to 13-13 overall. TLU dropped to 17-10 overall.
TLU was limited to just one hit, an infield single, over the first seven innings of play. The one hit came from freshman Daniel Harvey (Houston/Houston Christian), who singled in the third.
TLU took a 1-0 lead in the first when Andrew Femath (El Paso/Montwood/Howard JC) scored on a balk by Trinity starter Noah Solomon.
Trinity senior Jordan Pennington scored three times, doubled, and drove in two runs in his first three at-bats. Pennington finished with three hits and three RBI.
Tiger junior Evan Jones doubled and had four hits with two RBI. Third baseman Kevin Jackson scored twice and had two RBI.
TLU rallied for five runs over the final two innings of play. Clay Zboril (Louise/Loise), Sal Tijerina (Castroville/Medina Valley/Howard Payne), Jason McGill (San Antonio/Churchill), Landon Lee (Cypress/Cypress Fairbanks) and Brian Wheaton (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) each had an RBI for the Bulldogs.
TLU returns to American Southwest Conference action this Friday and Saturday with a three-game home series against Mary Hardin-Baylor. The 9-inning game on Friday starts at 2 p.m., and the Saturday doubleheader begins at noon. All three games will be played at TLU’s Katt-Isbel Field.
