SEGUIN, Texas – The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs evened the three-game series with California State-East Bay at 1-1 with a 6-2 win Saturday at TLU’s Katt-Isbel Field.
TLU improved to 4-2 overall with the non-conference win.
East Bay dropped to 3-4 with the loss.
The Bulldogs rebounded from Friday’s 9-1 loss to the Pioneers with help on the mound from junior right-hander Travis Staggs (Elmendorf/Southside/Western Texas JC).
Staggs pitched around trouble early and held off the Pioneers for seven innings in improving to 2-0. Staggs (Elmendorf/Southside/Western Texas JC) scattered seven hits and walked four, but he allowed just one run.
TLU’s Kyle Harvey (Houston/Houston Christian) had two hits, two runs scored and two stolen bases.
Six different Bulldogs registered RBI.
Ryan Nokelby (Santa Fe/Santa Fe), Clay Childress (Houston/Jersey Village/Eastfield JC), Andy Griffith (Loyola Beach/Riviera Kaufer/Cisco JC) and Chris Green (Austin/Bowie/Concordia Texas) each had two hits. Nokelby, Childress and Green each drove in a run.
East Bay center fielder Devin Grigg had a solo home run, two hits and a spectacular diving catch in the outfield.
TLU and East Bay conclude the three-game series Sunday with a noon start at TLU’s Katt-Isbel Field.
