Box Score
ABILENE, Texas – Carlos Singer’s three-pointer with 13 seconds to play broke an 81-81 tie and lifted the Hardin-Simmons Cowboys to an 86-81 victory Saturday over Texas Lutheran.
At HSU’s Mabee Complex, the Cowboys rallied from a 10-point deficit early in the second half to clip the Bulldogs, who dropped their sixth straight game. TLU led 43-39 at the half and 49-39 with 17 minutes remaining in regulation.
HSU snapped a seven-game losing skid. The Cowboys had not won since Dec. 1, in a home victory over Louisiana College.
HSU moved to 4-10 overall and to 3-7 in the ASC. TLU dropped to 2-11 overall and to 2-8 in the ASC.
After Singer’s three-pointer, HSU fouled to prevent TLU from launching a game-tying three-pointer. The Bulldogs were sent to the line on two successive possessions in the final 10 seconds and twice missed the front end of 1-and-1 opportunities.
The Cowboys added a layup off a missed free throw in the final seconds to account for the final score.
HSU put five players in double-figure scoring. Casey Riddle led the Cowboys with 17 points. He added six rebounds and five assists.
TLU received 21 points, six rebounds, three assists and three steals from sophomore Jonathan Hutton (Austin/Lake Travis). Sixteen of Hutton’s points came at the free throw line.
Michael Flores (Spring/Klein Collins) and Josh Scott (The Woodlands/The Woodlands) added 13 and 10 points, respectively. Scott led TLU with nine rebounds. Tyler Wanek (Fredericksburg/Fredericksburg) contributed eight points and eight rebounds.
TLU concludes its five-game road swing with Thursday’s 7:30 p.m. matchup in Belton with the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor.
