SEGUIN, Texas – The Southwestern Pirates, ranked 20th in the latest AVCA poll for NCAA Division III, spoiled the home-opener for the Texas Lutheran women’s volleyball team with a 25-18, 17-25, 25-18, 25-14 win Wednesday night.
At TLU’s Tostengard Activity Center, the Pirates broke open a match tied at a game apiece by running away with games three and four.
Southwestern improved to 3-3 overall, and TLU dropped to 3-2.
Audra Gentry led Southwestern with 15 kills. She added 13 digs and hit .300. Lindsay Thompson contributed 11 kills and hit .375.
Sam Lingemfelter recorded 24 digs, and Ali Zein-Eldin added 19 digs for the Pirates. Southwestern setter Christina Nichols registered 41 assists.
Southwestern hit .266 as a team and held TLU to .096.
Jessica Stetler (San Antonio/Churchill) led the Bulldogs with 15 kills. She added 14 digs. Jamie Jahns (Spring/Klein Collins) had 12 kills, two aces and a block assist.
TLU libero Blair O’Brien (Austin/Manor) collected a team-best 22 assists, and Bulldog setter Amanda Curry dished out 33 assists.
TLU does not play again until Thursday, Sept. 17 when the team hosts Hardin-Simmons in TLU’s American Southwest Conference opener. The match is set for a 6 p.m. start at TLU’s Tostengard Activity Center.
