SEGUIN, Texas – Texas Lutheran recent graduate Amber Lowe claimed the 17th ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America honor in school history when she was named to the Second Team 2008-09 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® College Division Women’s Track/Field & Cross Country Team.
Lowe is the fifth multi-year Academic All-America selection in school history. She was a Third Team Academic All-America selection in 2007-08.
Lowe joins a list of TLU multi-year Academic All-Americans that includes: three-time selection Natalie Wood (women's track and field, 2004-05, 2005-06, and 2006-07), two-time selection David Stahl (men’s soccer, 2002-03 and 2003-04), two-time selection Tommy Stolhandske (men’s basketball, 2003-04 and 2004-05) and two-time selection Matt Alves (football, 2006-07 and 2007-08).
The honors list for TLU Academic All-Americans also includes: Chantel Mize (women’s basketball, 1998-99), Amy Behlen (softball, 2002-03), Tracy Heathcock (women’s volleyball, 2003-04), Angela Bagwell (women’s volleyball, 2004-05), Abby Cochran (women’s golf, 2005-06), and Dana Robbins (women's cross country/track & field, 2007-08).
Lowe (Sugar Land/home school) advanced to the national ballot for a second consecutive year after earning First Team Academic All-District VI honors in the college division for a second time.
The college division of the Academic All-America program includes colleges and universities from NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Only First Team selections advance to the national ballot for a chance to be selected as Academic All-Americans. District VI of the college division has colleges and universities from Texas, Oklahoma, Mississippi, Arkansas, New Mexico and Louisiana.
Lowe graduated from TLU in May with a bachelor’s degree. She majored in kinesiology and held a perfect 4.0 grade-point average.
Lowe lettered in women's cross country (one year), women's track and field (two years), and women's basketball (two years) in her athletics career with the Bulldogs.
Named TLU's 2008-09 Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Lowe competed in 2008-09 on the women’s cross country team. She was in the Bulldogs' top seven for the ASC Championships and NCAA DIII South/Southeast Regional Meet.
In 2008, Lowe was a member of TLU's conference runner-up team at the ASC Track & Field Championships. In that meet, she ran the 800-meter dash for the first time that season and posted a third-place finish in the conference championships.
Lowe earned ASC Academic All-Conference honors in basketball, cross country and track and field in her athletics career.
