Marty Davenport
Assistant Coach (Throws)
Marty Davenport is in his first season working with the throwers of the Texas Lutheran women’s track and field program.
Coach Davenport graduated from Rockport Fulton High School in 1981 and then competed at Odessa Junior College from 1981 to 1983. Davenport that transferred to the University of Texas-Austin and competed for the Longhorns from 1983 to 1985.
Coach Davenport’s athletic achievements include winning the National Junior College Amateur Association (NJCAA) discus national championship in 1982 and being named an NJCAA shot put indoor All-American in 1983 and an NJCAA shot and discus outdoor All-American in 198.
Davenport was also the Junior Pan American Games discus runner-up in 1983, Southwest Conference discus champion in 1984 for the Longhorns, second place finisher in the discus at the NCAA National Track & Field Outdoor Championships in 1985 (throwing 205 feet and 5 inches), 5th-place finisher at the U.S. Nationals, and participated in the Olympic Sports Festival 1987. In all, Coach Davenport was awarded six All-American honors.
Davenport’s coaching experience includes being on the University of Texas strength and conditioning Staff, Austin Striders Track Club throws coach for six years, St. Michaels Academy throws coach for six years. Coach Davenport is USA Track & Field Level 1 Certified.
Coach Davenport has coached 45 AAU All-Americans in the shot put, discus and javelin and has had more than 10 AAU National Champions.
