Women’s Track & Field

The Texas Lutheran women’s track and field team took a small squad to the McMurry University Relays last Thursday, but TLU came back with an event win, two second-place finishes, and three other Top 10 finishes.

Senior sprinter Staci Jackson (Lake Highlands/Lake Highlands/McMurry) posted a provisional qualification time for the NCAA Division III Championships in winning the 200 meters. Jackson crossed the line in 25.24 seconds. Jackson also ran the 100 and took second in that event with a time of 12.39.

Casey Toombs (Amarillo/Amarillo) competed in the 400 and the 200. She was fourth in the 400 with a time of 1:02.99. She recorded a time of 27.95 to take ninth in the 200.

The full roster of the TLU women’s track and field team competes this Thursday in San Antonio at the Trinity University Invitational.

Baseball

The TLU baseball team completed a three-game series sweep of Sul Ross State with a win Friday and two wins Saturday in Alpine, Texas. The Bulldogs received pitching victories from Brad Orosey (7-1), Travis Staggs (5-1) and Jeremy Macklin (3-1). The Bulldogs won game one Friday 13-0 and swept Saturday’s doubleheader by counts of 8-5 and 9-2.

The Bulldogs are 22-11 overall and 11-4 in the ASC West Division. The Bulldogs hold a one-game lead in the ASC West over Hardin-Simmons and McMurry.

The Bulldogs play a non-conference game Tuesday in Georgetown, Texas against Southwestern University. The nine-inning game is set for a 5 p.m. start at Southwestern’s Rockwell Family Field, located on the Southwestern campus.

TLU will have a live audio webcast of Tuesday’s game from www.tlu.edu/athletics

The Bulldogs host Schreiner University on Thursday and Friday in a key American Southwest Conference three-game series. Game one of the series is set for a 2 p.m. start Thursday. The Friday doubleheader starts at 1 p.m. All three games of the TLU-Schreiner series will have live audio webcasts from www.tlu.edu/athletics.

Men’s Golf

The men’s golf team is in Round Rock, Texas today and Tuesday for the West Region Invitational Golf Tournament, hosted by Southwestern University. The tournament includes many of the top teams in the NCAA Division III West Region. A strong showing by the Bulldogs at this tournament could help the team in its pursuit of an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III Men’s Golf Championships.

The Bulldogs could advance to the NCAA tournament with an at-large bid or by winning the 2009 ASC Championships, set for April 20-21 at Hurricane Creek Country Club in Anna, Texas.

Softball

The Bulldogs dropped all four games of a conference series with Concordia Texas over the weekend. TLU dropped to 9-17 overall and to 4-8 in the American Southwest Conference West Division. The Bulldogs have lost eight consecutive division games.

TLU hits the road for doubleheaders Friday and Saturday at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. Friday’s doubleheader starts at 1 p.m., and Saturday’s doubleheader begins at noon.

Women’s and Men’s Tennis

The Bulldog tennis teams close out their 2009 seasons with conference dual matches this week against Schreiner and Mary Hardin-Baylor. The Bulldogs travel to Kerrville, Texas for Thursday’s matches against Schreiner, set for a 3 p.m. start.

On Saturday, the Bulldogs host the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. The matches for the women and men start at 10 a.m. at the TLU tennis courts.
