SEGUIN, Texas – Texas Lutheran freshman pitcher/designated player Brigitte Neumann led a group of six Bulldogs onto the American Southwest Conference All-West Division squads, released Tuesday after a vote of the division coaches.
Neumann (San Antonio/Incarnate Word H.S.) was named to the ASC West First Team after hitting .382 with a team-best 22 RBI. Neumann also led the team in pitching victories (5) and ERA (5.21). She struck out 43 batters and recorded five complete games, two shutouts, and a no-hitter.
Neumann tossed the eighth no-hitter in school history in an 11-0 victory over Sul Ross State on March 16.
Senior center fielder Natalie Suciu (San Antonio/Marshall) earned a spot on the ASC West Second Team. Four Bulldogs – sophomore Nicole Hatley (Katy/Taylor), freshman Amanda Edwards (San Antonio/Madison), senior Alison Organ (Houston/Westfield), and freshman Kelsi Loewe (Waller/Waller) – were selected to the ASC West Honorable Mention team.
Suciu, a four-year starter, started all 38 games for TLU and hit .229. She scored 20 runs and led the team in triples, with four. She also drove in 13 runs, stole 11 bases, and walked a team-high 14 times (tied with Hatley).
Hatley, the Bulldogs’ starting shortstop, led the team in hitting with a .389 average. She also led the team in slugging percentage (.513), on-base percentage (.465), runs (28), hits (44), doubles (8), walks (14), and steals (18).
Edwards, the starter at third base, hit .349 with seven doubles, 19 RBI, and a home run. Organ, a senior and four-year starter, saw time in 2009 at catcher and at first base. She hit .275 with 14 runs scored, four doubles, a triple and 13 RBI.
Loewe, a freshman pitcher, won four games and made a team-high 25 appearances. She notched two saves and struck out a team-best 65 batters. Loewe collected five complete games and one combined shutout.
TLU concluded its 2009 season with a 12-26 overall record. The Bulldogs finished sixth in the seven-team ASC West Division with a division mark of 7-17.
