SEGUIN, Texas -- At Texas Lutheran’s Gustafson Field, the TLU Bulldogs forged a 1-1 tie with Howard Payne on Saturday afternoon in American Southwest Conference action.
Kristin Meloni’s penalty kick in the 54th minute equaled the match at 1-1.
Both teams went scoreless for the remaining minutes of regulation and for the combined 20 minutes of the overtimes.
TLU’s record moved to 2-3-1 overall and to 0-1-1 in the ASC.
Howard Payne now stands at 2-3-1 overall and 1-0-1 in the ASC.
Takenda Cotton scored for Howard Payne in the 39th minute to give the Yellow Jackets the early lead. The goal for Cotton was unassisted.
Shots were nearly equal for the teams. TLU took 14 shots, and HPU had 13. HPU neded nine saves from Kaitlyn Kelm. The Bulldogs received four saves from Marlena Ashby.
The Bulldogs continue conference play on Friday with a home match against Schreiner. Match time at Gustafson Field is set for 1 p.m.
