DALLAS – Freshmen Carly Hansen, Angela Aufderhaar and Sarah Thompson teamed with senior Brynn Waggoner to propel the Texas Lutheran women’s golf team into the first-round lead Monday at the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament.
At Stonebridge Ranch Country Club in Dallas, the Bulldogs posted an opening-round team score of 331 to take a slim three-shot lead over seven-time defending ASC champion Mary Hardin-Baylor (334).
The ASC Championship Tournament concludes Tuesday with 18 holes of golf.
Hansen (Coleraine, Minn./Greenway), Aufderhaar (Seguin/Seguin), Waggoner (Austin/McNeil) and Thompson (Beaumont/Hardin-Jefferson) each posted a round in the 80s.
Hansen sits in third after an 80. Aufderhaar is tied for fourth with an 81. Waggoner and Thompson are eighth and 10th, respectively, after scores of 84 and 86.
TLU sophomore Andrea Ramirez (Hondo/Hondo) opened with a 106. She is in 28th position.
Jenna Felechner of Mary Hardin-Baylor is the opening-round leader. Felechner was one of two players to break 80. She shot a 76. Schreiner’s Surraya Minhas, playing as an individual, posted a 79.
Hardin-Simmons is third in the team standings after a first-round 352. The Cowgirls are followed by: McMurry (357), LeTourneau (373), and the University of Texas at Dallas (437).
TLU, coached by H.C. Tran, has not won an American Southwest Conference title in its women’s golf history. The TLU men’s team is the defending ASC champion.
