H.C. Tran, Texas Lutheran's head coach for men's and women's golf, has led the Bulldogs to back-to-back American Southwest Conference Championships in men's golf (2006, 2007) and to the university's first ASC title in women's golf (2007). He has also guided the men's and women's teams to the NCAA Division III Championships. Both teams played for the national title in 2007.

The men's team has made three consecutive trips to the NCAA Division III Championships and posted a school-best DIII finish of seventh at the 2007 championships. TLU tied for 12th in both 2006 and 2005.

Coach Tran led the women's team to a 19th-place finish at the DIII national tournament in 2007.

The Bulldogs have produced four men's golf All-Americans in the last three seasons. Josh Werland claimed All-America honors in 2005 and 2006, and Tanner Carter and Jonathan Swisher Leyendecker claimed All-America citations in 2007.

Coach Tran played collegiately at TLU and graduated from the university in 1990. Coach Tran was a part of the Bulldogs' 1990 runner-up finish at the NAIA National Championships. That second-place finish is still the highest placement by a Bulldog golf team at a national tournament.
