AUSTIN – Kassandra Bills scored 40 of her 44 points in the second half, including the game-tying three-pointer to force overtime, as the Concordia Texas Tornados rallied from 22 down to defeat Texas Lutheran 97-95.
Saturday afternoon at the CTX Fieldhouse, Bills scored just two points in the first half but hit 13 of her 17 second-half field goals, all five of her three-point attempts, and all nine of her free throws.
After Bills forced overtime for Concordia, the Tornados’ Whitney Clancy produced the game-winning shot, a lay-up with three seconds remaining.
Concordia Texas moved its overall record to 10-11 overall and to 10-9 in the American Southwest Conference. TLU dropped to 7-16 overall and to 5-14 in the ASC.
Concordia Texas won both games against TLU in 2008-09. The Tornados combined margin of victory was four points.
In Saturday’s game, TLU took a 20-point lead, 46-26, into the half after holding Concordia Texas to 19 percent shooting over the first 20 minutes.
Concordia Texas scored 63 points in the second half. The Tornados made 21 of their 38 field goal attempts in the second half and hit 10 of their 14 three-point shots.
TLU received 21 points, 13 rebounds, five assists and two steals from freshman forward Tamisha Timpson (San Antonio/Roosevelt). Kim Hagan (Houston/Cypress Creek) added 16 points and five rebounds.
The Bulldogs’ also collected 12 points from Pearl Kafoa (Keller/Keller Central) and 12 from Courtney Goodman (Ft. Worth/Keller Central/Southwestern Oklahoma).
The Bulldogs conclude the 2008-09 season next week with Thursday and Saturday home games against McMurry and Hardin-Simmons, respectively.
