TLU women lose 77-61 at Howard Payne

BROWNWOOD, Texas – Hope Hohertz and Elaine Hobbs scored 14 and 13 points, respectively, to lift Howard Payne to a 77-61 American Southwest Conference victory Saturday over Texas Lutheran.

In the Brownwood Coliseum, the defending national champion Yellow Jackets moved to 16-5 overall and to 12-5 in the ASC.

TLU fell to 7-14 overall and to 5-12 in the ASC with the loss.

Hohertz added seven rebounds, and Hobbs contributed five rebounds and two assists.

The Yellow Jackets out-rebounded TLU by 14, 48 to 34. HPU center Sarah Jockers came off the bench to grab a game-high eight rebounds. She also scored nine points on 4-for-5 shooting.

HPU’s Tiffany Warner dished out six assists and had four rebounds.

Tamisha Timpson (San Antonio/Roosevelt) led TLU with 16 points, six rebounds and two steals. Pearl Kafoa (Keller/Keller Central) hit three three-pointers and finished with nine points.

TLU trailed 39-33 at the half but shot just 26.5 percent from the field in the second half. The Bulldogs were 2-for-13 from the three-point line over the final 20 minutes of action.

TLU continues conference play this Thursday with a 5:30 p.m. home game against Mary Hardin-Baylor.
