CLARKSVILLE, Ark. – The University of the Ozarks women’s basketball team erased a 20-point, first-half deficit and rallied for an 83-75 American Southwest Conference victory Saturday over Texas Lutheran.
In Ozarks’ Mabee Sports Complex, Ozarks used a 17-0 run midway through the second half to grab the lead for good. TLU led 53-52 with 12 minutes to play, but the Lady Eagles’ surge turned the slight deficit into a 69-53 lead with 6:42 remaining in regulation.
TLU used a late scoring run to get back into the game. The Bulldogs brought the Ozarks leads down to four with 1:48 to play after a lay-up by freshman guard Amy Doyle (Houston/Jersey Village). Doyle’s bucket was part of a 15-3 TLU run.
TLU twice cut the Ozarks lead down to four in the closing seconds, but each time Ozarks had an answer. Olivia Fisher responded to Doyle’s lay-up with a three-pointer. Fisher then countered a Kelcy Albracht (Hart/Nazareth) three with two free throws with 19 seconds on the clock.
Fisher finished the game with 24 points and 23 rebounds. She was 8-for-15 from the field, 2-of-2 from the three-point line, and 6-of-7 from the foul line.
Ozarks moved to 5-8 overall and to 3-5 in the conference with the win.
TLU dropped to 4-8 overall and to 2-6 in the ASC with the loss.
Three other Lady Eagles made it to double figures. Sabrina Goddard added 17 points and nine rebounds, and Lacey Phillips and Ashley Teague scored 14 and 12, respectively.
First-year forward Tamisha Timpson (San Antonio/Roosevelt) led the Bulldogs with 22 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field. Timpson hit a career-best four three-pointers on five attempts. She was also 6-for-7 from the line. Timpson also produced six rebounds, six assists and three steals.
Sophomore post Courtney Haskell contributed 17 points and 12 rebounds. Kim Hagan (Houston/Cypress Creek) delivered nine points (all on three-pointers).
The Bulldogs led for most of the first half. TLU led 32-18 with 6:08 remaining in the first half and increased the lead to 20, 42-22 with 3:44 to play in the first.
Ozarks started its comeback at the end of the first half by going on a quick 10-0 run in the final three minutes before the break. Timpson hit two free throws right before the half to send the Bulldogs into the locker room with a 44-32 lead.
Saturday’s game at Ozarks was the fourth consecutive road game for the TLU women. The road stretch continues Thursday with a 5:30 p.m. contest in Abilene against McMurry University. TLU’s stretch of road games will reach seven before a Jan. 24 home game against Concordia Texas.
